Careers By the People: Year in Review – 2023

I have received such great support over 2023 from the Linkedin and career community, I wanted to send a review of what occurred after the release January 10, 2023 of my book, Careers By the People.

*Spoke 24 times at 14 different schools to 1950+ students.? 85% of the engagements were onsite; 7 were high schools and 7 were universities.? Two high schools in Hawaii, Maui and Kapolei HS, in Iowa had the pleasure speaking to Ankeny Community School, in New England, spoke at New Milford HS, Weymouth HS (alumni), Randolph HS and Holbrook HS. At the university level, spoke at Hawaii Pacific U., Cal State U. Dominguez Hills, Boston U., Suffolk U., U New Hampshire, U of Massachusetts Amherst (alumni) and UHawaii Community College System.

*Built a YouTube Channel and posted 60+ videos on career readiness. From soft skills to a resume booklet to career book reviews as well as excerpts from occupations that are in the book plus any thoughts and/or ideas I had that could help the next generation. https://www.youtube.com/@careersbythepeople/videos

*Constantly updated www.careersbythepeople.com with interviews, media coverage, videos, events, book excerpts etc….

*Attended many events such as ClimbHI, GEAR UP West, ACTE, NASPA, COE, NCDA, Hawaii Future of Work, and a plethora of career fairs etc….

*Many friends bought and donated over 500 books to 180+ schools or libraries. Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity donated 100 books to the University of New Hampshire.

*The Converted Kirkus Review “Get It” accolade was awarded to Careers By the People.

*Had a blast signing books at many Barnes & Noble, from Honolulu, Hawaii to Hadley, Massachusetts.

*Beginning the rough draft for book 2 and will keep you all updated on the steps.

*One of the biggest joys was to meet the book endorsers in person.? On the website, you can see a variety of pictures of which ones I met.? Serendipitously, one morning whilst walking my dog on the beach I had the chance encounter with Dr. Carl Ackerman of Punahou School. He was on Maui for the day and happened to be walking the beach at the same time.? That was a picture I wish I took.? When you have that chance in life, take it!?

Hopefully in 2024 I can get in front of more students and more schools. Any ideas and I’m all ears!

Thank you and much aloha to the many that have helped me on this journey.

Amazing journey ahead! ?? Remember, Napoleon Hill said - every adversity carries the seed of equivalent or greater benefit. Keep inspiring! ?? #GrowthMindset

Good job there Mike. Congratulations on such a successful year. When you were at CSU Dominguez I hope you met with my contact I’d sent several of your books to to see how receptive the students were and how well she promoted them as a tool. Elizabeth Hernandez.
