A career in time and space
In the process for searching out an infographic that I'd sketched out previously, I stumbled upon this one that I created more than a decade ago when I was experimenting with the idea of having an alternate resume. One that addressed a curiosity statement that went something like, "How might I visually represent my work experience with few words but communicating the evolution of professional development?"
I'm not sure this graphic does answer that question, but it's an illuminating look into my own professional past. The y axes categories and their relative contribution have me reflecting on what this would look like with the intervening 13 years added in. How am I spending my time today? Are they the most valuable? The most fulfilling?
The maps speak volumes about the value that I have always placed on the reach and potential impact of my contributions, although from experience I know that the result of efforts at a global normative level are only as good as the capacity, resources and will to apply them locally.
While I have to admit to liking the 'visual resume' concept, there's no denying that it's reductive and fails to communicate the richness that words can convey through a more conventional curriculum vitae.

6 年Thanks for sharing this, Tanya Accone. I've been thinking about how to do the same, including a video version including photos of me "on assignment", interview snippets, products developed, and so on. Not had a chance to actually execute though--and if I do, I imagine I'd still have to package it with a traditional resume.
