Career Spotlight: Traction Power Maintainer

It was a late Monday evening when heavy thunderstorms hit North Texas. Lightning struck part of the overhead catenary system, harming many components. The damage would disrupt normal rail service on the Orange Line. DART operations teams sprang into action, repairing the overhead catenary system in time for trains to resume normal service the next morning.

“Electricity fuels DART’s light rail system, so it is critical that we have highly skilled traction power maintainers who work well under pressure and can respond to equipment failure,” said Donald Lamotthe, director of traction electrification systems. “They must identify the cause of the problem, and restore equipment to service quickly and precisely.”

DART is currently recruiting for a traction power maintainer. This position is responsible?for performing preventive maintenance, inspection, testing, troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of traction power substations, overhead catenary systems, and components of the traction electrification systems (TES) for DART’s Structures & Amenities division.
