Career Spotlight - David Yoshimoto - SPT Labtech

David Yoshimoto is our OEM Sales Manager and has been with SPT Labtech since September 2022. Below he shares why he joined SPT Labtech, the current projects he’s working on, his love for travel and being fluent in two languages.

What is your role at SPT Labtech and when did you join the company?

As the OEM Manager at SPT Labtech, I have the exciting opportunity to work with some of the most innovative and forward-thinking companies in the scientific community. I joined the team in September of 2022, and from day one, I was impressed by the company's commitment to creating groundbreaking lab automation solutions.

In my role, I am responsible for managing our existing OEM projects and accounts, which involves building strong relationships with our partners and ensuring that their unique needs are being met. It’s exciting finding new opportunities for us to partner with companies to develop cutting-edge lab automation solutions that transform the way scientists work.

One of the things that set SPT Labtech apart from other companies in the industry is our focus on innovation. We're not content to rest on our laurels – we're always pushing the boundaries and exploring new possibilities. It's incredibly motivating to be part of such a dynamic and forward-thinking team.

What projects are you currently working on at SPT Labtech?

We have a couple of ongoing product development projects with different partners as well as a handful of internal projects that are focused on ways to increase our efficiencies.?The internal projects specifically will be very helpful as we continue to grow and add more talent.

What has been your favourite project at SPT Labtech?

My favourite project is a current development project with a client that is scheduled for release next year.?I am fascinated by the teamwork of my our team and our partners to find solutions that will positively impact a scientist in their everyday protocols and processes. The ingenuity and collaboration in creating a next generation life science instrument has been amazing.

What are you most excited to accomplish?

I get excited when I see our instruments being used in labs, it provides extra motivation that what we are doing day to day is making a difference to human health. The most exciting aspect would be our current development projects and knowing that we are already working on the next generation of lab automation instruments that will make a positive impact for scientists around the world.

What interests do you have outside of work?

I love to travel, experience different cultures and explore. I was born in Peru being fluent in both Spanish and English having moved to the United States when I was 8 years old.

My favourite place to travel to is Japan with my pro tip being, when you go to most shopping outlets and malls in Japan explore the basements for some of the best food stalls and restaurants. You can sometimes find some hidden gems. Also, don't be afraid of using the train system, it’s the best way to get around and I’d also suggest getting an IC card you can top up to travel and you can redeem the money back at the end of the holiday.

My other passion is getting back into running. Having recently completed the OC half Marathon. 7 years since I last completed it, it’s been great to get back into running. I’ve also persuaded a few friends to join me, we’re all enjoying the challenge and the sense of accomplishment when you’ve completed it.?
