Career Sessions
Over the past 2 months, I have spent time having conversations with over 500 of our employees on Career Management/planning. My mission is to make the world a better place one career conversation at a time.
It is important for us to learn, unlearn, and relearn in order to turn from job security to employability(future-ready and the future is now).
Someone said that if the only tool you have is a hammer then everything will look like a nail. In the sessions, we focused on a few tips on how to retool, reskill, and focus mindsets for the future...a phrase commonly used by our CHRO. How we take charge of our careers, focusing on what is in our control and what we can influence.
We covered:
- Career Planning-Discover your strengths/passion, setting career goals, Networking(Sponsor, Coach, Mentor, Counselor, Information sources)
- Resume Writing-creating a compelling resume.
- Interviewing-Preparation, tips on handling competency-based interview questions
- Personal Branding-LinkedIn/use of social media, Biases, Building Resilience, selling/positioning your talents
- Future skills-Digital hard and soft skills.
As I shared knowledge with the team, I also horned my public speaking skills, an area I want to develop.
It was interesting that I could reach over 500 staff virtually from my living room.
