To develop, plan, evolve, implement and support GBI’s overall network based on the agreed network strategy and customer demands ensuring that GBI’s network will meet customer expectations in line with technology developments such as software defined networks in a cost-effective manner. To manage the Transmission and IP Engineering Teams to develop, implement and support the GBI Transmission and IP Networks.
Key Responsibilities and Result Areas:
- Developing and implementing the plan for implementing the GBI network strategy.
- Working closely with the Business Development Director and Product and Pricing Director to ensure that the Network evolves to support the Business and Product plans.
- Maintaining awareness of supplier and industry developments in submarine and terrestrial network areas, and in conjunction with the Senior Manager Transmission Engineering assessing their suitability in line with GBI’s network strategy and making recommendations on implementing within the GBI Network.
- Maintaining awareness of supplier and industry developments in IP Network areas and in conjunction with the Director, Product Development assessing their suitability in line with GBI’s network strategy and making recommendations on implementing within the GBI Network.
- Monitoring developments in all fields of Software Defined Networks (SDN) and identifying where the can bring benefits to GBIs customers and operations.
- Working closely with the GBI operations teams to ensure that the network is operated efficiently.
- Ensuring that the network strategy implementation plan is delivered.
- Providing all necessary assistance to sales, marketing, pricing, legal and other departments as required.
- Managing the Transmission Engineering Team ensuring the GBI Transmission Network is developed, implemented and supported meeting customer requirements.
- Managing the IP Network Engineering Team ensuring the GBI Transmission Network is developed, implemented and supported meeting customer requirements.
- Managing the Capex and Opex budgets associated with the GBI Network ensuring company targets are met.
Education, Experience and Knowledge:
Education?Bachelors or Masters (preferred) in Engineering, Computer Science or a related technical degree.
Experience?in the design, acquisition and launch of a networking & technical system Deep understanding of networking technologies.
Minimum Experience:?10 years.
- Terrestrial and Submarine Transmission Technology.
- Transmission Network Design.
- IP Network Design.
- SD WAN Design.
- Software Defined Networks (SDN).
- Transmission, IP Network SDWAN and SDN Implementation.
Key Competencies and Skills:
- Strong understanding of the design and technical architecture of transmission and IP networks and operations.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to identify innovative approaches to develop the GBI Network.
- Ability to effectively communicate complex technical and network related activities.
- Ability to communicate with senior company and government officials.
- Ability to understand industry developments and develop plans to implement innovative and cost-effective solutions to utilize them for GBIs benefit.
- Ability to understand customer requirements and develop plans to implement innovative and cost-effective solutions to deliver them.
- Leadership and facilitation skills and team spirit.
- Intermediate computer skills including Microsoft Office products.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
