In current scenario, corporates (more so Manufacturing units) witnessing a major downturn. Lot of employees getting pink slips - some corporates being kind offering 5 months payment some offering 3 months and some nothing....
Under the situation, all those who are hard working and performing survive by and large... however who succeeds and gets next levels / promotions & good pay hikes??? To my mind & observation, they are the specially blessed ones, enjoying Direct connect with Top most officials of the hierarchy - THE Decision makers... And I have seen this affecting MERITORIOUS professionals getting adversely affected... by way of not gaining the recognition for their contributions and performance....
Any views on this please???

5 å¹´It's not new phenomenon in corporates. I think in other words it's called as "perception "about that employee. To build perception one need to be in direct touch as well with decision makers and people in power..

5 å¹´Hi Seema, totally agree with you. But i strongly feel that downturn is due to mediocre approach followed by mostly all the organizations. But it is never too late if few actions are taken today in few years i am sure that results will be different. It is always said that conventional approach lead to conventional results.

9 å¹´I am not aware of what happens abroad, but in India for growth you need everything except "merit" ,,,, for example - keep your boss happy (chamchagiri) ,,,, your dealers should be happy and not call your boss about anything specially complaint ,,,,, many places same caste / region / state ,,, HR getting poor quality bosses due to salary restrictions ,,,, personal grudge getting into professional decisions during appraisals ,,,, your own merit carrying more weight than your boss ,,, someone special to boss getting special status at your cost even if there is no merit ,,, boss very old in the organisation (kind of damad) and is aware that no one can question him ,,, ,,,, and the list is endless.

9 å¹´A true article in present context and scenario. The peers and subordinates are chosen (a specific word here) based on personal loyalty only, not on quality and company loyalty and integration. The peoples recruited based on these personal loyalty are learn at the cost of company with their own assumptions and any one can predicts, project fails. These kind of peoples have short term goals and with these goals they ruined the company and after all loss, branding, etc. are bear by the shareholders and honest employees. The sad part is some times HR peoples involved in promoting such culture and leadership are not aware of such functioning at the bottom level.
