Hey LinkedIn Fam!
So we are almost to the end of another work week, and I just want to have a little fun with ya :-)
Here is something you may not know about me...I grew up in Marlboro projects in Brooklyn, NY. And as you can imagine, rap music was embedded in the soul of my hood.
It was bumping from boom boxes on the stoops.
And it showed us all that telling your story can be the thing that leads to your ultimate success.
Growing up, I loved it all. But I have to say that Fabolous was my favorite. Maybe because he was born and raised in Brooklyn like me, or perhaps it was the life lessons his words embedded into me even at a young age.
And here are the three career lessons he taught me by speaking his truth.
“???????? ???????? ??????????, ??????’?? ???? ??????????????????.”
It is your responsibility to know the value and contribution you bring to every space you enter. And not just that. To demand it. Don’t take anything less than what you deserve. Always negotiate. Always ask for more. Accept no discounts.
“??????’?? ???????? ??????????????. ???????? ????????????????."
Excuses are your way of holding yourself down. They allow you the opportunity to give up your power and control. They steal space in your mind for the ability to consider possibilities and opportunities. Stop the excuses and start taking action to create the career change you deserve. Want that promotion? Don't doubt your abilities. Ready for that new job? Know that you can find a position and work environment where you will thrive, not survive. Ready for a career change? It is possible for you NOW.
"??????’?? ???????? ?????????????? ???? ???? ????????, ?????? ?? ???????? ???????? ?????? ????????????????.”
The work world has beliefs about you and what you are capable of based on your journey and story. But that is not your truth. Your truth lies in what you believe about yourself. Lead with that and never let anyone define you at work.

Rap music provided me a safety, sanctuary, and even lessons that I still hold in my life today.
That is the beauty and power of the spoken word.
And today, I celebrate it.
Hope you enjoyed this lightness in your inbox.
Now head out and listen to your favorite rap song right now.
