Career Development Webinar Series
With CMP's hope to bring our NYC community together during this difficult time and to provide useful resources/best practices in helping our job seekers navigate the challenges of today's labor market and succeeding in their job search, I would like to announce a new virtual series of biweekly Career Development webinars that I will be facilitating for job seekers throughout May, June, July and August on the nine topics mentioned below, which will focus on job search strategies during a tough job market that is rapidly changing.
If you are interested in attending any of the listed below, please let me know and I will direct you to our RSVP link.
Please ALSO feel free to suggest any upcoming career related webinar topics that you would like me to facilitate in the near future!
- Chronological vs. Functional Resumes - In this webinar of May 13th, I shared in depth career advice with participants on tips, examples and advantages/disadvantages of chronological and functional resumes in addition to current and future NYS labor market data. With a clear focus on what the employers may be looking to see in each applicant, related to experiences and their accomplishments, I demonstrated how both formats can be useful. With the COVID-19 recession going on, recruiters and hiring managers will be expecting extensive periods of unemployment gaps - which is totally understandable. Consider going with a functional resume or a combination resume, however, it varies for each individual's background. If you missed this webinar and you are struggling on how to start or fix your resume OR you are not sure which resume format best suits your work and educational background, I am happy to set up a virtual one-on-one appointment with you to take a look at your resume and discuss further.
- Using Social Media in a Job Search - This is the next webinar that I will be facilitating on Wednesday, May 27th from 2pm-3pm. Participants will receive guidance on how they can effectively utilize social media during their job search and to network with professionals - especially those who are recent graduates and those who are looking for a career change. Do you wish to land your dream career or work for your favorite employer? Are you curious about learning how to network during your job search? Then, this will be the webinar for you. I will also share with participants on how to build their online professional network and persona during this difficult time. With an overview of how job seekers can utilize social media platforms to engage with employers, participants will learn how to promote their personal brand and develop digital networking skills throughout their job search.
- DO's and DON'Ts during Video Interviews - This webinar will be held on June 10th from 2pm-3pm. Due to the rapid changes and economic uncertainty in today's job market, video interviews have been an increasingly crucial part of today's recruiting/hiring process. I will share with participants on tips and strategies on how to improve their next video interview with any potential employer. They will learn the best practices in preparing for a video interview and how they can accommodate today's technology to put their best foot forward.
- Career Panel Discussion with Google - This webinar will be held on June 24th from 2pm-3pm. We will be inviting 3 Google guest speakers from different teams, cultural backgrounds and experience level to share their career journey and the work they do with Google. This is a great way to expand and engage our audience as it brings more value to the career panel. It will be an open discussion as experts will be sharing their insights and tips of the general scope of their work, and will answer any questions that our participants may have. If you want to work for Google, are innovative and enjoy collaborations, go towards software development, software engineering or the tech industry, this is a good webinar for you to attend. Yes, start building that relationship and rapport! It is the best career shortcut and every new connection you make is a new opportunity for growth and a step further to setting you up for success.
- Mock Interviews with Google - Google will also be partnering with us to do a Mock Interview Session with our participants. There will be 20 minutes given for the mock interview with professionals (Google interviewers will consist of Software Engineers, Data Scientists, Program Managers, Account Executives/Strategists, UX Researchers, etc), followed by a 10 minute feedback after each interview. We will pre-match the interviewee according to their availability as they can confirm their time commitments/slots earlier so that the interviews can be conducted when and how many times that the Google guest speakers are willing and able to within a 3-week window period (between June 24th - July 15th).
- U.S. Census Bureau Workshop - This webinar will be held on July 15th from 2pm-3pm. Census will be discussing about the importance of what they do and the importance of Census in general, their job openings, the Census Taker position and also answering questions from the audience. They are still hiring and will continue to hire throughout the summer. They encourage job seekers to apply on 2020census.gov/jobs as soon as possible because training will take place in the first week of August.
- Industry Trends and Practices within Aerotek - This webinar will be held on July 29th from 2pm-3pm. Aerotek recruiters and account managers that specialize in Warehousing & Facilities, Healthcare and Clerical industries/sectors will be speaking on industry trends, what they are seeing in the market, best practices when it comes to interview and resume presentation. Then they will open up the floor for a Q&A as they would love to gain some market insight from a candidate standpoint as well. For those who are looking for jobs/growing careers within these areas, this would be an ideal webinar to attend to learn more about how to get your foot in the door.
- Civil Service Workshop with NYC Department of Citywide Administrative Services (DCAS) - This webinar will be held on August 11th from 10:30am-12pm. In this Civil Service 101 session, we are partnering with NYC DCAS where they will discuss about the City, available internships, jobs available on their websites, exams and their processes. DCAS has over 2000 career opportunities available in 80+ agencies that the City is offering, so if you are interested in pursuing a career with the City, please make sure to attend! The format is interactive, so attendees will send chats to speakers when responding to their questions and attendees can also send questions that speakers will respond to. At the end, there will be a Q&A for everyone.
- Spectrum Workshop - This webinar will be held on August 26th from 2pm-3pm. This workshop will be about Spectrum’s place in the industry;
· Spectrum’s various divisions operating to accomplish their mission statement.
· How to apply to jobs for each division, and
· What to expect in - from applying to onboarding for new employees (the promotion of the job online up to the end of training)
Throughout, there will be a participant “syllabus” for them to take simple clarifying notes along the presentation, and as a “take-away” reminder of the details.
