I recently had the honor of being interviewed by Melanie Woods at CGL Recruiting, and during our Livestream together a viewer asked:
“After 30+ years of corporate employment (and currently looking actively), how do I gain the confidence to transition my career to Business Coach?”
Great question! Confidence is a tricky thing. It typically comes from “evidence” or experiences that reinforce self-assuredness. I invited them (as I would you) to get a journal and number it 1-30 (or however many years of professional experience you have) and go back to year one when you first started in your career – and jot down…
a. What were your biggest takeaways?
b. What were your biggest growth moments?
c. Who were the bosses or leaders that you worked for?
d. What did you love most about that position, boss, or experience?
Do that for every year's number.
What you’ll discover is a portfolio of your wisdom, challenges, discoveries, and success. You will see in the years dedicated to professional efforts you’ve become significant, created a unique skill set of expertise and experiences, and increased the value you can bring to any role. If that doesn’t build confidence, I don’t know what will.
It is easy to be intimidated by change, but you’re being called to do something different it’s worth taking the risk on yourself.
“Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t – you’re right.”
-Henry Ford
I believe in your brilliance.
To your success,
Simon
