Career Advice from Dolly Parton

Career Advice from Dolly Parton

I came across some fabulous advice from the legend of all legends, Dolly Parton.

And it’s totally applicable to your career.

She said, “If you don’t take the reins, it’s going to stay the same. Nothing’s gonna change if you don’t change it.”

“If you don’t take the reins, it’s going to stay the same. Nothing’s gonna change if you don’t change it.” - Dolly Parton

It’s easy to go through the motions at work...

Waiting for your boss to reward you.

Staying where it’s comfortable.?

Sitting quietly as you’re mistreated.?

Hoping things will get better.

But hoping doesn’t create change.

Taking action does!

If you’ve been feeling stuck in your career, here are 6 questions to help you create change in your career.

  1. If you could design the perfect job, what would it look like? Don’t be afraid to be honest with yourself.?
  2. What would you like a day on the job to look like??
  3. What type of leadership role (if any) do want to have at your next job??
  4. What company values are most important to you (think mission/purpose, community service, employee benefits, corporate social responsibility, workplace culture)??
  5. What employee benefits are most important to you (think health insurance, retirement, paid time off, flextime, tuition reimbursement, etc.)??
  6. What skills or abilities, if any, do you need to acquire in order to advance your career??

Once you reflect on what you want, you can make a plan to make the changes you want in your career.

And if you’re having trouble answering these questions, then feel free to DM me, and I’ll help you out.

Make 2023 the year you take the reins of your career!
