I am a CRITIC by nature.?
??? I decided to become an ENCOURAGER.?
????????? Do YOU want to become an ENCOURAGER??
I’m writing this because, if you are also a critic by nature, I am confident I can help you along on ... your journey …?
?????? from critic to encourager.
This is the resolution I made.?
Rather than look for things done wrong ...?
???? I will look for perfect performance, and ...?
?????????? Make HEROS of Perfect Performers!
Here is an example.?
At Chick-fil-A, I enjoyed making unannounced visits to the restaurants.?? I wanted to know what our customers experienced.
Outside the Atlanta area, the restaurant employees would not recognize me as a member of the support staff.? That permitted me to go in, order food, be served, be seated, and evaluate the experience like any customer.
After paying for my food, I went to a table to examine and taste it.? Good or bad, I would go to the kitchen.? On this occasion the Waffle Fries were the item that required me to go to the kitchen.
I walked into the kitchen and ... shouted.??
???? “Who made my Waffle Fries?”
A stranger in the kitchen shouting got everyone’s immediate attention!? Usually, when I asked this everyone would point to someone else, and say ...?
???? “He.”? “She.”? “Not me!”
On this occasion, a young man said ... “I made ‘em.”?
Then I called to everyone in the kitchen ...?
???? “Come see what he did to my Waffle Fries!”
I held the bag up for everyone to see, then showed them to the young man who made them, asking ...?
???? “What do you see?”?
He replied, “It’s a bag of Waffle Fries.”?
Everyone agreed it was a bag of Waffle Fries.?
??? ???“No!” ... I said.??
“It is a full bag of Waffle Fries!? Customers like a full bag.? When the bag is full, they feel they get their money’s worth!”
Then I poured them out on the counter-top, saying ...?
???? “Come close and tell me what you see.”?
They said, “It’s just Waffle Fries.”?
???? “No!” ... I said.??

“They are all full slices of potato.? This is the way customers like them.? No chips or crumbs.”
?I asked, “Come over and touch them.”
They all agreed, ?“It’s just warm Waffle Fries.”
“Customers like their Waffle Fries to be warm!” ?I replied.
I held one slice up high so everyone could see it and ??turned it to examine it in detail.?
???? “Look!? A beautiful golden brown, cooked perfectly.”
Then, I took a big bite with ... a loud crunch, and said,?
“This is so good!? Crisp on the outside, warm and moist on the inside, just the right amount of salt!”?
???? “This is a ... PERFECT Waffle Fry!”?
Turning to the young man, I said ...?
“You keep making them like this and customers won’t be able to wait to get back for more of these PERFECT Waffle Fries!”?
Did everyone in that kitchen know how to make PERFECT Waffle Fries when I left??
Yes!?
Did I Make a HERO of a Perfect Performer??
Yes!
Of course, I did not ignore areas that needed correction or improvement, but my main purpose was to ...
Praise Perfect Performance!
Recognize, Reward
??? Behavior … You Want?
???????? Repeated!?
This is part of a series of articles on my journey ...?
