My boss was not happy.?

???? I had made a bad decision.?

??????????? What could I do?

It was 1953; Roy Hancock, a World War II veteran, had a neighborhood store, Triangle Grocery.?

While in high school I worked 2 years for him, part-time when school was in session and full-time in the Summer.

He was one of my best bosses, a good teacher, coach, and encourager.?? From him, I learned many character-building life lessons that had a tremendous impact on me.? He was absolutely committed to good customer service and quality control.???

His teaching was priceless!?

Mr. Hancock seldom left his store.? He did go fishing every Wednesday afternoon and took short vacations during the Summer.?

When gone he …?

????? left me in charge.?

I was 16 years old, not his oldest employee.?

Once while he was away on vacation, the Luzianne Coffee representative visited the store for our coffee order.? When I ordered the coffee we needed, he suggested that with his coffee selling so well, we should also sell Luzianne Tea.?

I reminded him we were a small store and already had two brands.? His reply …?

???? “Yes, but Luzianne is the best tea.”?

He was very convincing!?

??? I ordered the Luzianne Tea.?

When Mr. Hancock returned, and I told him I had ordered the Luzianne Tea …?

????? he was not pleased to add a third brand of tea.?

He reminded me that a small store could not stock many brands and needed to sell merchandize quickly.? He gave me a detailed lesson in small business operation.? Summing up, we had to keep our merchandise fresh and make a profit to stay in business.?

“That Tea Is Your Problem!”?

When the tea arrived …?

I took it home for my mother to try.? She did and said,?

???? “This is good tea, it’s better than the tea I’m using.”

?????????? I knew what I had to do.

???????? they would buy and … rebuy the tea!?

I was the Luzianne Tea Super Salesman!?

Luzianne Tea became our bestselling tea …?

Buying the tea was not a good decision but …?
