Career Academy connects students to the real world

Over the last 20 years I've been lucky enough to work with thousands of students and hundreds of career rehab and retraining organisations and in the majority of cases this work has been to create and deliver real world scenarios for structured and organised training courses so up-skill and re-skill people so they can find work.

In the last few years I have spent increasingly more time with BAS Agent, Accountants and Bookkeepers who use cloud accounting programs like Xero, QuickBooks Online, MYOB Essentials and the Hybrid Cloud program MYOB AccountRight. They've shared stories with me about people who've worked for them after completing a Cert IV in Bookkeeping and most of those stories involve the BAS agent doing too much work organising the employee because they have no real world experience. In many situations it has put them off hiring junior bookkeepers!

One of the contributors to the Workface Career Success program is Ross Miller, a blind rehab consultant that I've had the pleasure of knowing for over a decade. He's always inspired me because he has done well in his work even though he has what I believe to be one of the hardest disabilities to work with - blindness, but he makes me realise that negativity, lack of hope and lots of other personal issues can be a far greater disability.

I'm thrilled to be working with the WorkFace team to create and support students who are following career pathways from junior bookkeepers to more senior roles and in some cases moving from another career into the accounting profession, but also helping employees transition to become an independent contractor running their own bookkeeping business. This career pathway is one of the most challenging, yet rewarding career paths because it ultimately puts you in control of your own financial and earnings destiny!
