The care of words
Isn't this a beautiful and evocative phrase: the care of words?
I heard it listening to Krista Tippett talking with the Northern Irish poet, Michael Longley, in a re-run of the 2016 On Being podcast: The Vitality of Ordinary Things.
The care of words.
It invites us to consider how we hold our words and our language in an era when words are thrown away and cheap.
There have never been so many words swirling around us in our everyday lives. Yet we have forgotten their care.
And in doing so, we miss paying attention to the space between us and what resides in our soul.
It matters.

3 年Thanks so much for sharing Sue Heatherington - wonderfully wise and full of insight, as always. The care of words. It makes me think that we are all shepherds, tending to the flock and making sure each little lamb ends up where it needs to be. Hmmmm. Maybe spring fever has infiltrated my language...!

3 年Beautiful Sue Heatherington. I am working on holding my words to create space for others to speak. It’s a hard habit to break but so worth it.

3 年An important question Sue Heatherington. For me it's about taking time. Not feeling in a rush to respond, to add to the noise, but to connect with what we really want to say.

3 年I couldn’t agree more. In particular the importance of the spaces between and what is not said as much as what is. Communication in whatever form is a necessity of life.?
