A Card Table in the Garage....
Every entrepreneur out there that has ever started a successful business from scratch have often had the opportunity to sit back and reflect on humble beginnings....David and Christina Aparicio are no different.
From a card table in the garage, this husband and wife team have built one of the largest and most successful demolition businesses in the State of Idaho.
"Every structure is built differently and every job is different. One day you have a hammer and (you're) removing drywall with a 6 foot ladder, the next day your climbing a 168 foot smoke tower with scaffolding and you're wondering what the hell am I doing up here 200 foot in the sky," says David.
Notable Jobs Discussed
- Boise State University- Football Stadium Sky Box Renovation
- The Creamery (Downtown Meridian), now home to the Meridian City Hall
- Mercy Hospital, Nampa
Building a business for the long haul off of lessons learned when you were NOT the owner. "It goes back to the way you are treated. I have been in the demolition business for 35 years with 3 different companies, and I remember how I was treated. I told myself that if I ever get a company started myself, I am going to make sure that how they treated me is NOT how I am going to treat my guys....and that's exactly what I do," said David.
Respecting your people just as much as you do your equipment. "If you like your job, you are going to stick with it until you die. If you run a company and you take care of what you have in the company from the copier to an excavator, that equipment will take care of you." Says David. "Be a friend, don't be a boss. If you teach (your team) how to do the work, how to estimate the project...and if in two years they come into my office and are going to leave, I will shake their hand and say 'thank you very much' I was here to teach you and you are now going to take that (knowledge) somewhere else."
