Carbon13's July Updates

The headline this month is the announcement that Carbon13 has raised over $2 million from Silicon Valley-based True Ventures and family offices. We're delighted to use this money to expand our support for startups fighting the climate emergency. Read below for the details and comments from our founder and CEO, Chris Coleridge .

It's not just us with fundraises: Matnex , from our very first cohort in 2021, announced today a £2 million seed round led by Ada ventures. Huge congratulations and details below.

Carbon13 Raise?

?? We're excited to announce we that we've closed a successful seed round of over $2.2m and are set to boost our operations significantly, propelling us towards our target of 400m tonnes of decarbonisation.?

As our founder and CEO, Chris Coleridge says: “We have found that remarkable things happen when you bring together some of the world’s most talented people who are all highly motivated by the mission to fight the climate emergency.” With 46 ventures launched since 2021 and more to come this year, Carbon13 is scaling fast and we're looking forward to using this money to keep expanding our activities and supporting impactful climate tech startups.?

The key information:?

?? A range of family offices and venture firms contributed to this seed round including Silicon Valley’s True Ventures

?? We're consistently proving that extraordinary companies with ‘credible carbon potential’ can be built at scale

?? Carbon13 aims to hit 300 startup investments by early 2026

?? This new funding will go towards the expansion of Carbon13 activities, new cohorts, and more ventures

Congratulations to Matnex who have announced a?£2m raise led by Ada Ventures ?for their deep tech AI solution to push sustainable materials to market faster.

Raises and accelerators ??

  • Circular11 ?secured a trial and development grant with the National Highways Agency for new motorway fencing products, as part of their Low Carbon Accelerator Programme and won funding for a materials scientist through InnovateUK's Knowledge Transfer Partnership, supported by the National Composite Centre
  • Kestrix ?closed its 500k pre-seed round, with participation from Notion Capital and several top business angels. Congratulations
  • MapMortar ?have won a grant from Innovate UK for £260,000 for a project with their partner Barnet Council. They have also signed a purchase order for their first paid pilot.

  • Bluemethane ?achieved another important milestone in their journey to remove a billion tonnes of GHG from water. They presented our demonstration unit to a select group of water specialists, including UK water utilities and industry experts.?
  • Preoptima ?now includes Building Services . This feature comes at a pivotal time with increasingly stringent standards emphasising sustainable design, energy efficiency and reduced embodied carbon. It ensures that building design meets these standards right from the onset, setting the foundation for a compliant and carbon-efficient build.
