Carbon13 hits milestone of 30+ investments in early stage climatetech ventures
Carbon13 in numbers
Where we come from:
The first cohort of the Carbon13 Venture Builder programme joined us, in the beginning only virtually, in March 2021. Since then we've done over a thousand interviews with founders, worked in-person with over 200 and invested now in 32 #climatetech ventures.
It is the focus on decarbonisation and carbon capture which sets these ventures apart; each venture has the potential to reduce emissions by 10 million tonnes per annum – our threshold for investing. Furthermore, many of the startups are working on solutions that could even abate gigatonnes of CO2e when at scale.
Cohort 3
This week we've announced the latest 12 investments in ventures from our third cohort. For the next 4 months we'll be working with those teams on product development, customer development and fundraising support, culminating in our showcase days on the 6th in Cambridge and 8th of December in London. However, the support is not just us, but most importantly it comes from our EIRs (entrepreneurs-in-residence) who are successful founders like ???? Stephanie Alys , Jérome Joaug , Nishul Saperia and Sarah Dees (also previously Oyvind Henriksen ), as well as our community of domain and startup experts (there are too many great people to start listing them here...but thank you!).
Below is a video with a short snippet on each of the 12 ventures. If you want learn more, find and follow them on Linkedin.

The money that we invest comes from private individuals who invest in our SEIS funds. Any UK tax residence, who qualifies as an HNWI or sophisticated investor can invest, whilst getting SEIS tax benefits. Look up SEIS, it's pretty great...
The Carbon13 SEIS Fund III is supported by notable investors including ex-Dragon Nick Jenkins, Aron Gelbard (founder, Bloom and Wild), Graham Hobson (founder, Photobox), and Doug Scott (founder, Redbrain). If you want to get involved in future funds, please reach out to me or my colleague Min Dhillon .
Where Carbon13 is going
Next year we will launch a few big initiatives: first, we will come to the EU with a headquarter in Berlin, Germany. This second location will become our blue-print for further global expansion. If you want to get involved as a founder, domain expert, startup expert or EIR, please reach out. We are also hiring for a few roles in the Berlin team, check out our Linkedin jobs for more details.
Secondly, we are launching what we call the Venture Launchpad. This programme will allow teams who have already formed and have maybe even raised some investment, to join the Carbon13 community. We get a lot of applications already from teams that have started their journey, but want to be part of a community that makes sure that every startup maximises it's carbon impact potential to the fullest. If this is for you, please reach out to me or one of my cofounders.
Finally, we will launch a larger fund vehicle, besides the SEIS funds, to allow us to invest in another 250 startups in the UK and EU, as well as follow on rounds of our most promising ventures from the venture builder programme. This is super exciting as it allows us to support our startups for the long term!
Lots of exciting developments. We hope you will join us on the journey one way or the other!
