CARBON MANAGEMENT BLUEPRINT

CARBON MANAGEMENT BLUEPRINT

In recent years, the urgent need to address climate change and reduce carbon emissions has become an ever-growing concern for countries, cities, corporations, and non-profit organizations worldwide. Amidst the increasing awareness and debate surrounding environmental sustainability, it is crucial to approach the complex issue of carbon management with a systematic methodology that considers the diverse drivers, resources, and circumstances of different organizations.?

Our new book, "The Carbon Management Blueprint” aims to provide a logical roadmap for organizations seeking to reduce their carbon footprint. Our motivation for developing this methodology stems from the recognition of the emotive rhetoric that often pervades public discourse on climate change and sustainability.?

Media headlines proclaiming singular solutions, such as the complete replacement of fossil fuels or the exclusive reliance on renewable energy, can oversimplify the multifaceted challenges faced by organizations.?

What is Carbon Management?

Carbon management for corporations is a methodology to reduce the carbon footprint and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions of organizations in the private and public sectors. It involves a strategic approach to measuring, managing, and mitigating emissions associated with operations and supply chains.?

Carbon management enables corporations to demonstrate their commitment to sustainability and contribute to global climate goals.

This process starts with assessing the organization's carbon footprint, setting reduction targets, and implementing strategies. We acknowledge that every organization operates within a unique context, with varying drivers, funding levels, and available resources.?

We utilize a Carbon Management Hierarchy or "funnel", to determine strategies - based on a Avoid, Reduce, Replace, Capture and Store, Offsetting structured methodology.?

The benefits include improved efficiency, cost savings, enhanced reputation, regulatory compliance, and attracting stakeholders' acceptance.

This book does not engage in climate science debates or attempt to advocate for a “one-size-fits-all” solution.?

Instead, it offers a pragmatic approach to carbon management that considers the specific circumstances of each organization. Our goal is to present a logical roadmap that allows organizations to reduce their carbon footprint effectively and tailor solutions to their individual needs.?

We have divided this book into four different parts:

  1. An explanation of the seven steps needed to have an effective process to reduce your organization’s emissions and carbon footprint in a timely manner.?
  2. Practical components, such as the role and capability of a Carbon Manager, the coordination with Sustainability and ESG reports, etc.
  3. The importance and Structure of a Carbon Management Plan (CMP), with examples from various sectors from both the public and private sectors, including CMPs for a developing country, an offshore gas project, a passenger ferry company, amongst others.
  4. What’s next for the role of carbon management?

We, therefore, introduce a seven-step cyclical process designed to guide organizations through the complexities of carbon management. This provides a framework for understanding the importance of carbon reduction and the benefits it brings, while emphasizing the need for individualized approaches. The methodology is rooted in practicality and feasibility, recognizing that different organizations have different starting points, capacities, and limitations.

From measuring carbon footprints to setting targets, implementing initiatives, and reporting progress, we aim to equip organizations with the tools and knowledge needed to make tangible and sustainable emissions reductions.

By following the guidance presented in this book, organizations will gain the confidence to embark on a meaningful journey toward a lower carbon future. Whether you are a government official, a corporate executive, a city planner, or a sustainability professional, "The Carbon Management Blueprint” will provide you with the essential knowledge and practical tools to drive positive change within your organization.?

Let us move beyond the rhetoric, and rhetoric and embrace a pragmatic approach to carbon management. Together, we can navigate the complexities of reducing carbon emissions, adapt to evolving energy ‘’trilemmas,”, and foster a more sustainable future for generations to come.?

The journey starts here, with "The Carbon Management Blueprint.”
