The Carbon Cost of your IT
We always try and make sure that any equipment we supply to our customers has the lowest possible footprint of its carbon impact.
I decided to have a quick look to see if I could see which vendor is the most forward thinking when it comes to sustainability and environmental when it comes to the planet.
Decided to take a look at 惠普企业服务 , Dell Technologies & 联想
Overall, it's clear that all three organisations are taking proactive steps to reduce the carbon footprint of their laptops and other products. However, it's hard to definitively say which one produces the laptops with the lowest carbon footprint without more specific data and research.
It's also worth noting that the carbon footprint of a laptop can depend on factors like its lifespan, energy efficiency, and how it's used, not just how it's made.
Therefore, in addition to the manufacturing process, considering these factors can also help in choosing a more environmentally friendly laptop.
Hewlett Packard
HP claims to have the world's most sustainable PC portfolio, with more Energy Star qualified products than any other manufacturer. They aim to eliminate 75% of single-use plastic packaging by 2025 and managed a 44% reduction compared to 2018.
They have made some great strides, with specific models like the HP Pavilion Plus 14" Laptop PC, which has a full-metal cover made from recycled aluminium, saving about 729 tons of CO2 emissions.

They also have a goal of achieving 75% circularity for HP products and packaging by 2030, currently standing at 39% circular by weight. Furthermore, they aim to reduce HP product use GHG emissions intensity by 30% by 2025, compared to 2015, and have achieved a 39% decrease through 2021.
Lenovo
Lenovo has a CO2 Offset Service that offsets carbon emissions associated with Lenovo devices over their average lifecycle, including manufacturing, shipping, and usage. They have helped commercial customers offset more than 1 million metric tonnes of carbon dioxide associated with the purchase of their IT equipment. Lenovo also emphasises sustainable packaging and includes sustainability practices at every stage from design to packaging, energy efficiency, and recovery.
Dell
For Dell, I found information that they track the carbon footprints of their products and aim to reduce their environmental impact, but I couldn't find specific data or goals related to carbon emissions reduction when searching for the information.

Summary
For us as a business, HP wins out. They publish some great data and quite often the carbon footprint is largely accumulated in transport and air costs of carbon.
