CAR-T Cell Therapy as Senolytic
With increasing age the body accumulates damaged cells (senescent cells) that do not function normally but secrete factors that contributes to aging. Senescent cells are linked to a large host of aging diseases, one can find an increased number of senescent cells in various pathologies like heart disease, kidney disease, osteoporosis and a large variation of other aging pathologies.
When young, the immune system of the body is efficient at clearing out senescent cells and keeping the number low, with increasing age this mechanism fails and tissues becomes more and more loaded with senescent cells.
There are multiple options of reducing the number of senescent cells and doing so lead to a restoration of health in mice with measurable functional improvement.
This paper shows some new very interesting data that one can use CAR-T Cell Therapy used for cancer research to remove senescent cells as well.
