Car Donations from the Inactive Elderly Driver – A Great Idea!

The car in the picture is a white 2011 Ford Focus with only 9,000 miles on it. It was donated to Cars of Hope and given to a deserving family in 2018. It came from the estate of an elderly person who no longer was able to drive.

Many people find as they get on in years, that they can no longer drive their vehicle. Often a vehicle in this situation has low mileage and is well-maintained, having been kept in a garage. It frequently only requires basic maintenance repairs to be able to run for many years.

When people are no longer able to drive, they are often unsure of what to do with their vehicle. If, for example, it comes time to move into assisted living, what can be done with the car? Many would gladly donate it to an organization if they knew it would help a needy family. Cars of Hope can facilitate this situation. Our 501(c)3 organization takes a well-maintained car, performs the necessary maintenance and gives it to a deserving family that has fallen on hard times, helping them get back on their feet financially. Even if the donated car happens to be well beyond its useful life, Cars of Hope will sell it as is and use the funds from the sale to pay shops to do nonprofit repair work on other salvageable donated vehicles that can be passed on to families in need. Cars of Hope, as a 501(c)3 organization, provides receipts for all donated vehicles.

Do you know of a family member, friend or acquaintance who no longer drives their vehicle? Be sure to suggest that they consider donating it to Cars of Hope. Visit us at carsofhope.org or call us at 224-216-CARS to donate a vehicle or get more information. Cash donations are gratefully accepted as well.

The Daily Herald recently ran a story about Cars of Hope in their Community Page that you might find very interesting: https://www.dailyherald.com/submitted/20200106/nonprofit-that-connects-cars-with-deserving-families-takes-off-at-naperlaunch-academy
