Captain Clem - I'd follow you anywhere
I enjoyed every minute of watching Captain Clemens and his charming, motley crew of mischiefs set sail from New Zealand to Patagonia with a stop on the way to Antarctica.?
I loved everything about this little adventure documentary called Sea Gypsies. The way it was filmed, the music, how it captured the rough, foamy edges of life at sea and its raw, endless beauty.?
But most of all, I enjoyed getting a small glimpse into Captain Clem and how he?leads?his crew.?
Clem embodies what the big “L” should be. The kind of guy you want to naturally follow and learn from verses the guy who checks all the boxes on the “e” axis for effective leadership. He’s not on screen too much, but when he is – you’ll want to lean in a bit closer to watch. I promise.?
Leadership oozes out of him. Literally, it’s on display in word and deed. It is impossible not to relate to his smile or his command. Whether he’s at the helm for 24 hours or sewing up a sail with crew.?
This is a guy you want to be in a foxhole with. You will trust him with your life. Because he is putting his trust in you. He doesn’t mince words, “nobody is ever going to go overboard –– really, it’s just you are dead, but for the rest of us it’s not that easy.”??
And, at the same time he is just one of the crew having fun. He is a visionary, a modern-day passionate pirate who recognizes the journey is just as profound as is getting to the destination.?
Leadership like this inspires. I wish there was more of it in the world.?
