This or That in Capri: Choosing Between JK Place Capri and Hotel La Palma
When planning a luxurious getaway to the enchanting island of Capri, two names frequently rise to the top of the list (at least for our clients): JK Place Capri and Hotel La Palma. Both properties promise an unforgettable experience, but each offers a unique charm and set of amenities. Here's a closer look at each to help you decide which is the perfect fit for your dreamy vacation.
Seaside glam at JK Place Capri
J.K.Place Capri feels like a getaway within a getaway. The property is a palatial villa-style building that feels like everyone is coming together with one goal in mind: sun and sea. Entering the property, you are immediately drawn in by the decor; it feels like you’ve arrived at a chic friend's house for the weekend. High ceilings bounce light throughout the space, while the bold black and white checkerboard floors draw your eyes through the lobby spaces. Looking out the windows you’ll notice just how close to the sea you are. Breathtaking views and literal steps into the shallow shore waters is very enticing.
The rooms put the focus on the water with calming shades of white and pale blue and minimal pops of color. For families or traveling friends, look at the Penthouse Suite, featuring two double rooms, separate bathrooms and two terraces with sun loungers and views of the Bay of Naples. The JK Master rooms have a similar feel but for single couples. For a more private pick, look to the smaller Hideaway Rooms, also with views of the bay but with its own entrance from the main building and a patio area.
JKitchen, the main restaurant, serves up exquisite Mediterranean cuisine enjoyed both indoors and on their terrace. Go for the catch of the day and make sure to try one of the pastries for dessert. The Lounge Bar, overlooking the sea, is a delicious all-day mix of cocktails and seasonal tapas. The Pool Bar, in the middle of the garden, serves up anything needed for a day of relaxing on the loungers. Guests can also enjoy private dining for smaller groups in a separate library and dining area.
The spa at JK Place features Dr. Barbara Sturm products (try the Signature Sturmglow) as well as an enticing Presun Exposure treatment to make sure you achieve your best vacation-tan. Outdoor yoga sessions with sea views and the full gym add to the holistic wellness offerings.
Situated on the edge of the sea, JK Place Capri offers easy access to a range of activities, including boat tours around the island, hiking trails, and exploring the Blue Grotto. The proximity to the water allows for various water sports and excursions, making it ideal for those who love adventure and exploration…or at least the thought of it. While there isn’t an official beach club on the property, guests can head down to loungers near the gorgeous waterfront and sandy shores of the sea. Take advantage of the nearby Marina Grande to grab a quick shuttle boat to Bangi Tiberio (a KAX top pick!) or Fontelina.
The downtown dolce far niente of Hotel La Palma
Hotel La Palma (Capri’s first hotel, originally built in 1822) welcomes guests with a charmingly restored building that blends classical Italian architecture with contemporary elegance. This centrally located hotel, steps from the famous Piazzetta, offers a slew of amenities perfect for any guests who want both relaxation and exploration around Capri. Hotel La Palma offers immediate access to the bustling life of the island while maintaining an air of exclusivity.
The vibe of the hotel is light and minimal, with nods to the 50s jet-set era. Dark woods, calming blue and green fabrics and mid century furniture are accompanied by nautical details and an abundance of plants to create a very cool feel. The exterior of the building is a bright white, so the light carries in every step you take around the property.

The rooms at the hotel carry this vibe, with vintage furnishings but a modern appeal. The sprawling suites (for up to 10) are perfect for families or those wanting an excess of space, while a host of still spacious suites offer up private terraces with loggias.
The glam of the hotel's dining options are not to be missed. The flagship restaurant, Gennaro’s, is named after the chef (two Michelin-starred Chef Gennaro Esposito) and serves authentic Italian classics “revisited with a characteristic flair.” Think breaded spatula fish millefeuille and fennel gratins served along your classic Nerano-style cavatelli and catch of the day.
The al fresco all-day eatery, La Palma Bar & Terrace, will be your lunch and afternoon cocktail spot. The hotel has dubbed it as the spot for ‘dolce far niente,’ or the sweetness of doing nothing. You can sign us up. Speaking of signing, pay close attention to the cocktail menu, with each drink designed after a classic Italian hand gesture. Can so much be said with no words? After a few of those delicious libations, we certainly think so.
Your days will be spent rubbing elbows with the chic crowd at the pool. Enjoy a drink at the pool deck’s Aqua Bar, or order lounger-side while you soak up the Capri sun. As the sun fades, head to Bianca, the rooftop restaurant and bar for views of the rooftops of Capri Village.
When a beach day is in order, a short shuttle to the southern coast of Capri will transport you to Da Gioia by La Palma, in the Marina Piccola. One of the premiere spots on the island, the club is open to hotel and non-hotel guests alike, so it’s not only the perfect place for the sereneness of the sea, but for people-watching as well. The restaurant here focuses on fresh, local ingredients along with daytime classics like lobster pastas and salt-crusted fish.
An interlude to your time away should be had at the spa for treatments featuring Tata Harper, Augustinus Bader and Miamo products. To wind down an afternoon, spend time exploring the island’s shopping and cultural centers steps outside the hotel doors.
Either way, you’ll have a memorable stay…
Whether you are drawn to the serene luxury of JK Place Capri or the elegant vibrancy of Hotel La Palma, both properties provide an exceptional base for experiencing the magic of Capri. If you seek a tranquil retreat with stunning sea views and a blend of classic and contemporary luxury, JK Place Capri is the ideal choice. However, if you prefer to be at the center of the island’s vibrant life while enjoying modern elegance and easy access to Capri’s attractions, Hotel La Palma is the perfect fit. Either way, both hotels promise a memorable stay on one of Italy’s most enchanting islands.
