Capral Aluminium Drives Innovation: New Sponsorship with Monash Motorsport

Capral Aluminium is excited to announce its partnership with Monash Motorsport . This strategic partnership will enable Monash Motorsport to leverage Capral's capabilities and comprehensive range of extruded aluminium and rolled products to manufacture aluminium components for their race cars. This exciting initiative is a testament to Capral's commitment to fostering innovation and engineering skills within upcoming generations.

Monash Motorsport, founded in 2000, is a dynamic Formula Student team based at Monash University. With over 100 members from various engineering disciplines and other degrees, this diverse team showcases skills and collaboration for innovation. Competing in the Formula Student competitions in Australia and Europe, Monash Motorsport represents the university on the global stage in the world's largest student engineering competition. The team has evolved with the automotive industry, fielding entries in electric (EV) and driverless (DV) classes, demonstrating their adaptability and forward-thinking approach to motorsport engineering.

Aluminium plays a crucial role in Monash Motorsport's race car design, particularly in the custom powertrain and the vital accumulator system. The team extensively uses 5005 sheet metal, known for its malleability and strength, in the accumulator - the car’s high voltage battery back, a component critical to the car's performance. Beyond this, aluminium is required for other parts, including suspension components, monocoque hardpoints, aerodynamic elements, ferrules, mounts, clevises, and the front roll hoop.?Capral's sponsorship provides Monash Motorsport access to high-quality aluminium products and opens doors to explore innovative materials and production methods. With Capral's support, Monash Motorsport is well-equipped to push the boundaries of automotive engineering, enhancing its capacity to build and develop competitive vehicles for future races.

Olivia Dowling , Head of Business at Monash Motorsport, states, "Partners like Capral Aluminium empower us to excel in real-world competition. Their expertise in aluminium components and solutions drives our innovation, helping us become a globally respected team. We're grateful for Capral's investment in the future of engineering and proud to represent their name in motorsport."

Capral recognises the importance of supporting young, passionate engineering students who are the future of our industry. With its on-track and off-track challenges, the Formula Student competition tests engineering skills that are highly valuable across various sectors, including the aluminium industry. By supporting these talented students, Capral is investing in the next generation of innovators and problem-solvers.

Peter Darvell , Regional General Manager of the Southern Region of Capral, states, "This partnership not only helps develop the skills and knowledge of future engineers but also contributes to the growth and advancement of the engineering field as a whole, ensuring a bright future for both the students and the industry."

Monash Motorsport competed throughout Europe this year, and their next competition will be in Australia in early December. The team were excited to place 5th at FS Netherlands and 6th at FS East in Hungary, out of over 40 of the most competitive teams worldwide. In addition, they successfully completed their first two Driverless competitions, in Hungary and Germany, and look forward to showing the competition their best performance. With Capral's support in providing high-quality aluminium elements and solutions, Monash Motorsport is well-equipped to showcase its innovative designs and engineering prowess on the global stage.
