Capitalising on the Rise of Philanthropy in the UK: Mastering Major Donor Fundraising

As fundraisers, it’s our responsibility to match the generosity of the public with the worthy causes our organisations champion. Right now, in the UK, there is a golden opportunity knocking at our doors. Charitable donations from high-net-worth individuals are on the rise, and there has never been a better time to capitalise on this trend by mastering Major Donor Fundraising.

Several times this year, the Beacon Collaborative have published their findings that show ongoing growth in UK philanthropy. More wealthy individuals are giving, and they are giving more. Generosity is particularly growing among those with assets over £5 million. These generous individuals are thinking hard about their giving and are becoming more strategic with their philanthropy. The Sunday Times Rich List, published in May this year, backed this up.

This presents a fantastic opportunity for charities that can engage with these donors effectively. But how can we ensure we are adequately equipped to do so?

This is where the Mastering Major Donor Fundraising training series comes into play. It is a practical and in-depth programme designed for fundraisers who aim to thrive in this landscape. The series covers every aspect of developing and running a successful major donor programme. By the end of the four-day course, participants will be able to confidently build, run and grow a major donor programme that brings transformational gifts into their organisation.

"Really insightful and engaging" "Really great day, thank you so much. Feel much more confident & empowered now." "Very informative content" "I will change the way we communicate through our proposals as a result of this course." "Enjoyed the real-life experiences and stories"

Let’s unpack what you can expect from each day of our training series:

  1. Practical Management: Learn how to manage a major donor programme, from individual plans all the way up to annual plans and budget. Understand how to demonstrate progress, give confidence in your programme, and manage a fundraising team effectively.
  2. Powerful Asking: Master the art of the ask. Learn when the right time is to ask, how much to ask for, and what to do after you have asked, whether the answer is yes, no, or maybe.
  3. Persuasive Proposals: Learn to pitch compelling proposals that resonate with donors. Understand the psychology of philanthropy and how to keep your home-team on-message about the proposal.
  4. Prospect Pipeline: Uncover potential major donors from within your database and learn how to engage them effectively. Learn network mapping interviews and inspire those people to want to share their networks with you.
