Capex Finance - end of an era...
So a week today will be the last day of Capex Asset Finance Limited. Capex is being merged with Anglo Scottish Finance as per the wishes of the shareholder. Warren and I aren’t sad, or distraught or opposing this change whatsoever. The change is necessary. Anglo are an excellent business.
Warren and I started broking in June 1999. 22 years ago! Julian started broking a couple of years later and we formed Capex with the three of us as equal directors in 2003. For the vast majority of the time Capex has been around, I honestly believe we’ve been one of the best asset finance brokers in the country. Culminating with us selling the business for £25million in 2017. I’m kidding. But nonetheless selling our little business to a major corporate entity, very few brokers do, was some achievement. It proved we were a good business, as good as any broker and exciting times were ahead.
2017/2018 business was exceptionally good, figures were being smashed. But as many of you know in July 2018, we very sadly lost Julian. Losing Julian completely knocked us all for six. He was as integral as anybody in the making of the business. In all honesty, I don’t think the business every really recovered from Julian’s passing to this day.
Did we make mistakes along the way. Yes 100%. Could we have done things differently. Probably. But hindsight is a wonderful thing isn’t it? We also had some great times. I don’t remember the deals we wrote, but I do have a (hazy) memory of lots & lots of nights out! We were never shy of a social at Capex, as many of you will know.
I’d just like to thank everybody who helped make Capex such a great business for such a long time. Its been a blast. Finally I would like to thank Warren. We’ve been mates since 13/14 years old. Seen it all, got the t-shirt and stuck at it through thick & thin. Both Warren and I will remain in the Anglo business in different roles.
So I’m not done just yet. My number stays the same – 07974100015. Hope to speak and see some of you very soon.

3 年We don’t know each other that well Alan but our paths have crossed a couple of times. Two businesses that I have worked for over the past 40 years closed and redundancy ensued at both. They turned out to be the two most positive steps in my life - moving South and starting our own Brokerage. My experience is to welcome change and enjoy the future ride - it’s all good.
