No Cape, No Apologies: Embracing My Soft Life

No Cape or Shade! I’m not your Superwoman, and remember these things before you pass judgment…

  1. I’m a single mother, but I still need a community of HELP!
  2. I am not the only person who can place phone calls and check on people.
  3. Just because you see me as STRONG doesn’t mean I don’t endure Fear, Pain, and Uncertainty too!
  4. Even if you disagree, that doesn’t mean my human experience is less valuable or valid than yours.
  5. Not all single mothers make poor choices. There are just as many wives who made the same choice but opted to settle for abuse, neglect, and devaluation for a simple, more acceptable title. I a
  6. m the oldest child. Yes, I am very responsible, but I also helped raise other people’s children and sacrificed my childhood for the sake of the “Family.” So, call me selfish. That is not an insult. I am not being guilt-tripped into doing things anymore. I am taking my power back.

No Cape, No Apologies: Embracing My Soft Life

Let me take a moment to unpack what I shared earlier because these 6 points aren't just random thoughts—they’re essential truths that guide my journey into a Soft Life.

  1. Community Matters: As a single mother, I’ve learned that asking for help isn’t a weakness; it’s a necessity. I’ve built a support system because I refuse to carry the world's weight alone. It’s not just about survival—it's about thriving.
  2. Delegation is Power: I’ve stepped away from the idea that I must be the one to handle everything. Others can step up, too. The phone doesn’t just dial out from my hands. Sharing the load doesn’t make me less responsible—it makes me wise.
  3. Strength Isn’t Invulnerability: You might see me as strong, but I experience fear, pain, and uncertainty like anyone else. I’ve stopped wearing strength as a badge of honor. Instead, I’m leaning into softness, acknowledging that real courage lies in vulnerability.
  4. Respect My Journey: My life experiences, choices, and perspectives are valid, even if they don’t align with yours. We all walk different paths; my journey is no less valuable because it doesn’t mirror yours.
  5. Choices and Titles Don’t Define Worth: Single mothers are often judged harshly, but let’s not forget that every woman’s path is different. Some wives endure toxic situations for the title alone, while I chose peace and authenticity for myself and my child. My choice doesn’t make me less worthy; it makes me true to myself.
  6. Reclaiming My Time and Power: As the oldest child, I carried responsibilities that weren’t mine, sacrificing my needs for the family’s sake. But I’m done with guilt trips. Setting boundaries and being “selfish” isn’t about neglecting others but finally caring for myself. This is my power, and I’m not handing it over to anyone.

These realizations are my foundation as I step into a Soft Life—one where I prioritize peace, joy, and authentic living. Boundaries aren’t just about saying no; they’re about saying yes to what truly matters to me. If you’re navigating similar waters, know this: Redefining what strength, love, and care look like for you is okay. Embrace your softness, set those boundaries, and live a life that honors who you indeed are.
