Released in 2006, Okami remains one of the most artistically revered games ever created. Its cel-shaded art style, inspired by traditional Japanese ink wash paintings, paired with its unique gameplay revolving around the magical Celestial Brush, made it a critical darling. Despite modest commercial success at the time, the game developed a dedicated fanbase, earning remastered versions on modern platforms and an enduring reputation as a cult classic.
For years, fans clamored for a sequel. Now, their patience has paid off. Capcom’s decision to greenlight a new Okami project suggests a growing recognition of the value of its older IPs, not just as relics of the past but as untapped opportunities to create new experiences while honoring the originals.
“In addition to regularly releasing major new titles each year, Capcom is focusing on re-activating dormant IPs that haven’t had a new title launch recently.” - Source
This approach highlights the company’s dual focus on innovation and heritage, ensuring that both new ideas and fan-favorite franchises receive attention.
While the prospect of resurrecting dormant IPs is exciting, it’s not without its challenges. Expectations from fans can be sky-high, and any misstep risks tarnishing the legacy of the original games. Additionally, the gaming landscape has evolved dramatically since many of these franchises were last active, requiring developers to find ways to modernize mechanics and storytelling without losing the essence that made the originals special.
If done thoughtfully, these revivals could usher in a new golden age for some of gaming’s most cherished franchises. Fans can only hope that this marks the beginning of a trend, where their long-dormant favorites finally get the second chance they deserve.

1 个月Love Okami so much. Beautiful art style, music, everything. I've personally always wanted the Trauma Center games to make a comeback, but I doubt that's something Atlus would do ??

2 个月Ah yes a beautiful game but I hit a wall with the gameplay, got to the bit with the sake drinking chap and his dance, and could never circle the blossoms in time. Of course you always had to go through the WHOLE dialogue every time you tried. Doesn’t matter how good your art is if the repetitive game play gives you the rage! I hope if they do resurrect it they don’t make that mistake again.

2 个月win-win for both sides: business gets more profit and gamers get more games. hope Capcom ports Onimusha 2-4 to pc.
I would love to see a rebooted captain commando, and megaman legends 3, and Strider in the vein of a dark souls style game. Honestly Capcom has been killing it for a while I trust them to deliver quality.
