"Capchuring"? the human spirit

"Capchuring" the human spirit

We all come in different shapes, colors, and sizes. Every person who has ever walked the face of the earth carries greatness and value in them. Each contributes in their own meager, moderate, or exceptional way. Interestingly enough, we all have something powerful in common. That is each of us is equipped with an indomitable human spirit. It wants to succeed and be recognized!..And should be recorded.

Yes, it’s true; some individuals accomplish more, influence more, and become more. These people discovered a way to more fully leverage their innate potential of greatness within and consequently became more resourceful, determined, and in some cases, more fortunate. BUT this doesn't make them better than the rest. Being rich and famous per se is a very poor way to judge who is great and who is not. In fact, much of the great acts of others doesn't draw large crowds. And unfortunately, soon becomes forgotten.

That “human spirit” in us naturally seeks greatness. Greatness and success of course can be interpreted and experienced in an infinite number of ways.

For example: An "unknown" and "ordinary" lady in a small town in Africa might provide medical care and generous assistance to her small community and consequently inspires or saves lives. Quite impressive don't you think? Much to be learned from, but her stories don't travel very far from home, and somewhat become forgotten. Take another: A "famous" celebrity performs well on stage, and the world sees it and millions of tweets occur as a result. Different levels of perceived "greatness", but are they equally great? Obviously, very different size of audiences and meaningful impact. Both are part of their unique story. Both contain value. Should relative “greatness” get diminished because of location, level of impact, or size of audience? The answer in my opinion is a resounding NO!

Next time you walk around and observe others around you, I invite you to contemplate the vast pool of greatness that surrounds you. It is made up of all “kinds” of people such as the well known, ordinary folks, and everything in between. There certainly are stories worth learning about and celebrating. Imagine if somehow we could capture and aggregate all those pieces of their lives that made them great. If by some tool, we could persuade people to share their “story of greatness” so that we all could learn from it and recognize them. Or at least provide a place for that individual to look upon their life and feel strengthened by it. Imagine a database full of these stories and achievements that not only contain those who currently live, but also those who have passed on. We could bring the past to the fresh technologically sound present.

I contend that each human spirit is meaningful, measurable, and important. Each person is different and therefore should have a place to share and voice that contributing uniqueness. All deserve to be appreciated, loved, understood, and recognized...At least in a better, broader way than we have now. Which is moments of greatness unorganized and buried in endless social feeds across different social networks. Or even worse, the notable stories and pictures are hidden in boxes in their attics or left to be told anecdotally by those close to them.

There should be no more “unknowns” (living or dead) in a world filled with prolific technology to capture and share information like we have today (The internet, searchable records, and social media). Evidence of greatness is everywhere around us in the virtual and real world. It just needs to be captured, organized, displayed, made searchable, and shared appropriately.

It’s time to begin to aggregate the human spirit. How? By building a place where people can freely share their achievements and identity. And at the same time, provide a place where these people can share the achievements of those who came before them (ancestors or role models) that influenced their life. The time has arrived to aggregate the meaningful achievements and stories of all who have ever lived. With this aggregation, comes the opening of a wide gate full of priceless and useful information such as the world has never known.

Capchur is a new app (and tool) to help in this awesome opportunity to record stories. Here is an article about it. It is a free proactive journaling / life story telling app in the app stores. Please download and try it out.

Here is a 4 min KSL TV interview about what Capchur does and why it does it.

Love this! Thanks for sharing Chad. My wife, who loves family history, has been focusing on living family history with our family. She records and documents everything. I am excited to share this with her.
