The Canton Reports. Cybersecurity Series. Volume 9. Incident Response: Preparing for and Responding to Breaches.

This episode of The Canton Cyber, Privacy, and AI Reports, Cybersecurity Series, Volume 9 is about Incident Response.

Story time!

I was working at a law firm as an associate. It was 4:59 p.m. on a Friday afternoon. A partner was calling me. Although I had not worked with this partner before, this partner had a good reputation - kind, nice, professional, supportive - overall a great professional.

He had called different persons in the data privacy and cybersecurity team; the partner did not get a hold of anyone other than me.

Within less than 30 minutes we had a call scheduled with the client.

I was nervous. Yet, I showed up like I was in charge. It turned out, I was in charge because I was prepared.

In the brief amount of time before the meeting, I researched the company.

I had a check list of questions to ask.

I took notes.

I was present.

I was focused.

Fortunately, for the client, it turned out to not be an incident. What that experience taught me was that my preparation paid off and I was able to deliver the necessary service to a client in a time of need and stress.

For you, my dear readers, I recommend that you have an incident response plan. Even if you think you will never need it, if you ever do, you'll be surprised at how much it will help you tackle a stressful situation such as a cyber incident.

Please note: I'm trying something a little different with the design and access of the newsletter. Today's Canton Report can be found here.

As I previously mentioned, I am sharing information about a webinar on how to enter the cyber and privacy industries. Sign up for the mailing list to get the email with the information. You will get an email with the event information.

Thank you for reading. I hope you enjoy this report as much as I enjoy putting it together for you.
