"Can't we just.." in the UX world

Someone asked me recently “Priscilla, as a UX Designer, I have a question for you. We asked our favourite UX company to make a tiny change, and they gave us a full week quote. What do you think?”

Having worked with that (great) agency previously, I had a good idea that their quote would be accurate. A said-to-be “tiny” change can have a massive impact, be more complex than imagined.

What if you imagine dentistry: How long do you think is needed to repear a teeth? We all have different perception, misconception, misinterpretation and prejudices leading to this compilation list of what has been (is often) heard in the UX/CX industry:

1.     Definition and Necessity:

"I like UX. Pleasant screens and good looking websites."

"UX is only logical, obvious and common sense. It is intuitive."

"We like your style as a UX designer, do you have a portfolio so we can check your visual graphic design identity and style?"

"We’re looking for a UX/UI Designer."

"Is UX Research necessary? Because I’m already doing psychology and ergonomics research everyday"

"Could we have a template for the journey mapping, that we could re-use without you (having to pay for your service)?"

"But why don’t we start with wireframes? Why do we need research?!"

2.     Wireframes vs UI

"Do you really plan to color my app in grey?"

"But why is the writing in Latin?"

"We would like sexy wireframes."

"But, is it really the design?"

"We’re looking for WOW effects, animations… Please do some UX!"

"You’re doing your little drawings?!"

"Can you do the same on PPT?"

"Really?! That’s it?! I can draw grey squares too!"

"No, I really like the wireframes design, we don’t want more than that."

3.  “I’m also a user, I know what they want”

"Can we do discovery research without talking to anyone outside the company?"

"Feedback from users don’t matter, just do what I said!"

"User testing is not new, we regularly check phrases before uploading information online in our website. We do AB tasting."

"Why do user testing?! I already know my customers inside out."

"We can test our website ourselves, we are also users!"

"Why ask users?! they don’t know what they want, but I do!"

4.     Other suggestions

"What can we add to fill in the whitespace?"

"Nobody likes to scroll"

"We are done with the new interface of our website, and we would like a little bit of UX design for final arrangement before release in 15 days."

"I have good and bad news: users like the new interface, but the CEO doesn’t. Can you please change that?! Without requiring development codes."

"Something is not working, but I don’t know what.. "

"I am not here for colouring and collage!"

"M. Everybody is the specific user we have in mind."

"Maybe it is not the Design which is not good, but users are dumb!"

"It is not possible!" from developers

If that article made you smile, remind you of a meeting.. like, comment or share your own favourite phrases.
