Can't Shake The Pre-Show Stress
I had known for a couple of months that I would be on CTV Morning Live again thanks to the very generous and awesome Sue Hameed, owner of Platinum Mortgages in Ottawa.
I'm not a gifted speaker on TV (this was my 3rd time on live television) or on stage in front of 600 people. The gift of gab went to my sisters who talk far too much haha. I stumble. I forget words. I forget what I'm saying in mid sentence. Some people will say "well you won't improve if you keep telling yourself that you're not a good speaker".
The truth is that my public speaking has improved because I've had lots of practice - lots of practice thanks to people who've given me the opportunities to speak. Pretty thankful for that!
All I want is to reduce my reaction to the fear and nervousness especially in the 2 or 3 days leading up to the "event". For some reason, I was really nervous about doing CTV Morning this time and it wasn't my best "performance" as a result. I don't get many headaches but man I had a 3 day binge headache. I was irritable, unfocused and I pretty much slowed down and even shut down some of the work I needed to get done.
How can I reduce the nervousness? I've tried exercise, deep breathing, affirmations, eating, not eating, and other tips sent to me by people in the media industry. Let me know what you've done to reduce the stress that comes with public speaking.
Anyway, here's segment 1 of the show - I'll post segments 2 and 3 in the coming days.
