Can't Hurt Me - David Goggins

3 Paragraph Book Review Series: #002

Perhaps the biggest take away from this book is that self-mastery is the greatest, most rewarding and most valuable accomplishment anyone can attain.

David draws on his experiences in the US Navy, as an ultra marathoner, as an 'only', and as an abused middle class child who transitioned into a poor, scared, rejected high-school dullard. He leverages those experiences to show just how much one can go, and keep going if they'd only want it bad enough to endure...to embrace pain. Can't hurt me isn't about not feeling pain, it's about embracing it, loving it, romancing it until it loses its edge...until it cowers in the face of resolve.

In the end, in a brush with the Grim Reaper, in embracing death with gratitude, he finds new wisdom. Wisdom that'll not only help with his recovery after Doctors failed, but one that will help him push even harder. He finds the wisdom in balance.
