Canning Stock Route Update #7

Today we made it to Leonora – which translates into “the last bottle shop for the next 2,800km”. The other refuelling happened already in Laverton (see picture) where we filled up our jerry cans. Tomorrow we’re spending the first night on the Canning hence no more fuel replenishment either way.

Yesterday I was praising the little Travel Buddy oven. Today we go one step up the value chain: The fridge. Engel is an indestructible Australian icon, and they can be run not only as fridges but as freezers. I’m running my 60 litre Engel as a freezer to keep my 24 (!) pre-cooked meals plus heaps of bread on minus 14 degrees. Last night the freezer didn’t need to work that hard because it was very cold. We also need to talk about sleeping bags and recommended temperature ratings...

All other essentials such as tonic water and sliced limes are kept chilled in the fridge between the two front seats.

Both, freezer and fridge getting their juice 24/7 from REDARC ‘s Alpha150 lithium battery which is a story for another day.

Thanks for all the comments and other encouragements I receive via email, WhatsApp or text from you. Feel free to drop me questions in the comment section and I will do my best to get back to you asap.

Your prioritisation of tonic and limes is spot on Jens!!!

Some great Australian kit you are using. It might perhaps not be the cheapest kit (compared to overseas brands) but it certainly makes up with outstanding, proven quality and durability! Great feature in The Australian today!

Thanks for the updates Jens. It’s great to see some of the Australian kit and gear you are using. Some great tech and manufacturing stories out there. And very pleased to see you are managing your daily intakes of vitamin c with limes and iodine with tonic water! Very important health measures! ??
