Canning Stock Route Update #16
After some nasty stretches of corrugated tracks plus some careful driving over fields of sharp lava rocks we made it to the most remote national park Australia has on offer: The Karlamilyi National Park.
Our standard tyre pressure of ~40 PSI is now down to 18 PSI so that we can deal with those challenging surfaces. Speaking about PSI which stands for pounds per square inch: Didn’t we say we'd go metric some time ago?!?
The remoteness of the Karlamilyi National Park is paired with pristine beauty: Pictured below is the “Three Goanna Pool”, named after the indigenous goanna painting above the water.

What a splendid opportunity to wash my clothes. I’m sure there are many highly functional outdoor clothing brands out there. However, I have chosen a slightly different path and decked myself out with tradie gear from iconic brand Hard Yakka. What works all year round in the outdoors of a construction site, certainly works in the bush.
I also got myself a set of boots from Australia’s only work boots company Mongrel Boots . I particularly like the side zipper to get quickly in- and out of the boots plus that Mongrel has a variant on offer without the steel cap. These lighter and more flexible boots will have to do when a snake bites or a gin tonic glass falls on my toe.
Now before some folks point out again how many pairs of socks I washed since last laundry day (four pairs plus the one I wear), that was five days ago thank you very much. In general, the bush hygiene is of high standards, including a bath (with bio-degradable soap) in the 14 degree cold Three Goanna Pool which is the equivalent of a midsummer splash in the German Baltic Sea.
Happy days all around.

8 个月Jens, awesome trip and reporting. This so makes me want to leave and explore more of this wonderful and stunning country we live in. Nature at it's best and harshest. Good luck with the rest of the tour and save travels home, mate. Hope to catch up sometime soon.
