Welcome to the BBJ's LinkedIn Weekly Edition! This is Managing Editor Don Seiffert to perhaps shock you with the fact that my surname is pronounced "SIGH-fert" rather than most people's first guess, which is "SEE-fert". Why? Because I am of German heritage and we pronounce everything funny. For more hard-to-pronounce fun, head to Harvard Square's annual Oktoberfest this Sunday. Meanwhile, here's the week's biggest business news.
Cannabis firms hold their breath
The past year at the Cannabis Control Commission has been anything but stable. A suspension of the chair that lasted nearly a year, ending in her being fired. In-fighting between remaining commissioners about who would take the helm. A resignation of a longtime executive director, a role that continues to be vacant.
Meanwhile, businesses have questions, like when will the rules for social consumption (allowing cannabis cafes to exist, as promised in the 2016 ballot question) be complete? And is the state ever going to get rid of the two-driver rule that’s largely seen as unneeded, yet is crippling pot delivery businesses?
This week, Isabel Hart looked into what cannabis business owners really want from the state’s regulatory board that they’re not getting because of the lack of leadership there.
