CANE 2023
Alex-Jaden Peart
MPhil Candidate in Classics at the University of Cambridge | 2024-2025 Lionel Pearson Fellow, Society for Classical Studies
What a wonderful day! Yesterday, I had the great privilege of presenting my paper "Divina Mens: Imperial Propaganda in De architectura 6.1" at the 117th Annual Meeting of the Classical Association of New England (CANE) as this year's recipient of the Phyllis B. Katz Prize for Excellence in Undergraduate Research.
It was such an honor to join a community of such excellent scholars and educators and, as someone astutely noted, we are all perpetually students, no matter our age.
I would also love to thank my incredible mentors Drs. Ellen Lee, Jacques Bromberg, Maggie Beeler, and last, but certainly not least, Andrew Wein. They've been invaluable purveyors of knowledge and support that have helped make me into the scholar that I am today.
I would also like to thank the David C. Frederick Honors College, University of Pittsburgh for providing with the means of getting myself to Needham, Massachusetts to attend CANE and for the numerous other impactful experiences that it has afforded me!
