The Candy Crush Economy

The Candy Crush Economy

A winner: Vans, which is giving Activewear giants a run for their money on social media. The brand has nearly 50 million Instagram likes and comments – more than rivals Nike and Converse.

A winner in China: Korean Beauty brands, which are getting major buzz from endorsements by Korean celebrities. Baidu users search more for Innisfree than any other Beauty brand, and imports of Korean cosmetics soared 250% last year.

A winner: mobile game developers. Just a handful of gamers make in-app purchases, but they drive most of the revenue for mobile games.

A winner: Excedrin. Despite generating less revenue than Advil, the brand pulls ahead in search thanks to its savvy SEM strategy.

Quick and to the point with great insights as usual. Just not convinced about the mobile game developers / winners thing yet. Isn't it true that only a tiny fraction of developers (don't know the number but probably <1%) can actually make a living from app revenues? Unless by "winner take all" you are actually referring to the developers and not to the gamers?

"A winner: mobile game developers." But not the ordinary workers developing games. They get paid salary and worked to death with ridiculous 100 hour weeks. No overtime, and horrible job security. Also, not the QA people - who make sure the games are top quality. Nope, they cheap out on quality.
