Candidates Respond to Chamber Questions
Manhattan Area Chamber Of Commerce
A nonprofit organization working to support the business development of MHK to make it a better place to live and work.
Election season is here with some key community races being decided in November.
The Business Advocacy Committee put the finishing touches on a half dozen questions for 10 candidates for the USD 383 School Board, and nine candidates for the Manhattan City Commission. These candidate questionnaires are designed to allow Chamber members, and the general voting public, insight into the candidates’ feelings on issues important to the Chamber, like private sector job growth, housing, budgeting, taxation and much more. The responses are posted on the Chamber website and will be shared broadly with Chamber members.
You can access those here:
Four seats on the 7-member school board are on this years’ ballot, along with four of five city commission seats. Normally, there would be three, but the decision earlier this year by Sen. Usha Reddi to step down from the City Commission to devote her energies full time to the state Senate, prompted the fourth vacancy.?
The Chamber is also partnering with the Manhattan chapter of the League of Women Voters in hosting a pair of separate candidate forums, both on Saturday, Oct. 7 at the Manhattan Public Library. School Board candidates will be from 10 a.m. to 12 noon and candidates for the City Commission from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Advance voting begins Wednesday, Oct. 18.
Please make time to become more familiar with the candidates and their views on community growth and economic prosperity.
