Candidate Platforms - Tectonic Shift

The landscape of candidate platforms is changing. The shift has been happening for long. It started when LinkedIn hit the markets and tried to propagate that hiring is not done by plainly maintaining databases, rather by developing communities. People used to laugh at LinkedIn saying they don't understand the 'recruitment business'.

So what? People always laugh at pioneers.

If you put together all the different types of candidate platforms in the market, you will realise that the industry has moved quite a bit and the direction of the future seems apparent.

These are some of the most popular candidate platforms in the country. Each one specialises in its own domain and comes at a cost. Employers can post job ads on each platform or search the platform database to find the right candidate. Employers choose the right platform based on their own requirements.

A. Mid - Senior Management Platforms

These are the well established big guns of the business. Most traditional business is still conducted here.

  1. Naukri - Information Technology, Banking, BPO, Manufacturing, Retail, Automobile, Real Estate
  2. Shine - Banking, Insurance
  3. Monster - Information Technology
  4. LinkedIn - Information Technology, Sales, Operations
  5. IIM Jobs - Consulting, Finance, Sales, Legal, HR, Operations, BPO

B. Front Line Platforms

This area promises growth. However, it comes with challenges of language and skill levels. At the same time, these platforms are growing with extremely competitive gig platforms for the same workforce with flexibility and quick money (like Uber, Urban Company, Swiggy)

  1. Quikr - BPO, Logistics, Health, Hospitality, Facility Management, Financial Services
  2. Team Lease - BPO, Logistics, Hospitality, Facility Management, Financial Services, Back office, Beauty, Retail
  3. Apna Jobs - Sales, Financial Services, Back Office, Maintenance, Beauty

C. Fresher Platforms

These platforms are competing with campuses who offer students at no cost. They are trying to create their niche based on convenience and pre-assessments.

  1. All in one - Engineering
  2. First Naukri - Engineering, MBA
  3. Freshersworld - Engineering, MBA, Graduation, Diploma, ITI
  4. AMCAT - Assessed Freshers - IT, Sales

E. Gig Work Platforms

These are like open marketplaces. You register as a customer or a service provider. Customers and service providers are matched for jobs with fixed scope and money. They verify the service providers and allow customers to rate the service providers.

  1. Upwork - Sales, Admin, Customer Service, Data Science, Graphic Design, Architecture, Mobile App
  2. Freelancer - Website, Graphic Design, Logo Design, Marketing, Writing
  3. Guru - Programming, Writing, Translation, Design, Admin, Sales, Finance, Architecture, Legal, Education

F. Community Platforms

  1. Angel List - Startups
  2. Cut Short - Startups
  3. LinkedIn - Business
  4. Stack Overflow - Programming Forum
  5. Github - Programming
  6. Behance - Design
  7. Dribbble - Design

G. Employer Branding Platforms

These platforms are open digital platforms who have accounted for data privacy complications in the future and built their business models as 'branding' platforms. This space is a natural transition for most of the traditional platforms.

  1. Indeed - Healthcare, Banking, Government, E-Commerce, Banking, Consulting, IT, BPO
  2. Glassdoor - IT, Digital, Consulting, Retail, E-Commerce, Banking
