“CANCER NAVIGATORS PROGRAM” of Riverside Bacolod Cancer Care Center is this year’s THIRD PLACE WINNER of the Gelia Castillo Award for Research on Social Innovations in Health (GCARSIH).
GCARSIH is a national award co-developed by the Department of Science and Technology—Philippine Council for Health Research and Development?(DOST-PCHRD), Department of Health?(DOH), and Social Innovation in Health Initiative Philippines?(SIHI Philippines)?to recognize and support social innovations that address persistent and systemic health challenges in the Philippines.
It bears the name of the late National Scientist?Dr. Gelia T. Castillo, who espoused the tenet that science should advance humankind. Current social health innovations created by Filipinos for Filipinos are eligible for this Award.
Riverside Bacolod Cancer Care Center?launched?CANCER NAVIGATORS PROGRAM in 2020 with the intention to provide personalized support to cancer patients and their families as they navigate the complex healthcare system.? The innovation program is focused on improving cancer care by offering four (4) core components: comprehensive patient navigation & support, financial assistance, collaborative care networks, & community engagement.
A total of 2,300 cancer patients have been successfully navigated by the Cancer Navigators since 2020.
As the Third Place Winner nationwide, the Riverside Bacolod Cancer Center will receive plaque, cash prize & training & mentoring session to further advance the innovation program on March 27-28, 2025 during the DOST- PCHRD Anniversary Celebration.
