Canadian Study Visa Rejected? Here's Everything You Must Know!

Canadian Study Visa Rejected?

There are many international students each year who wish to study in Canada. To study in Canada, you need an entry Visa and a study permit.?

Applying for a visa or a permit begins after admission to a designated learning institute.?

Another thing to note is that the number of international students holding a Canadian study Visa is more than 3,50,000.?

This number increases every year, according to the IRCC (Immigration, Refugees, Citizens Canada).?

This has resulted in more Visa rejections as well. As per CIC, 30% of the total student Visa applications for students in Canada are rejected for familiar reasons.

Continue reading as we discuss those reasons and what should be your next steps.?

Reasons For Canadian Student Visa Rejection

If you are an international student and fulfill all the minimum requirements for your student admission requirements, you may be optimistic about your Visa. However, your Visa application may still get rejected even if you fulfill all the admission and academic needs.?

Some of the popular reasons for the same are-

Insufficient Finances

The minimum requirement for studying in Canada is to ensure you have proof of funds for studying in Canada for at least one year. Still, if the immigration officer suspects financial insufficiency, the Canadian student Visa application may be rejected.

It should be your focus, not just to have the proof of funds for the minimum funds required. Evidence should be there for the study of more than one year, along with the supporting documents for the same, and should be present with you in the application.

Choice Of Program

If the choice of program you opted for comes in the line of questioning by the visa officer, the visa may be rejected. This happens when the chosen program does not seem to align with the applicant’s previous academic or employment background.?

This problem can be solved if you include a detailed personal statement on why you chose the program, in case it does not align with the previous background.?

A detailed work or education history can be added to the application in case the previous and the chosen field do align.

Letter Of Acceptance

To apply for a study permit, you must have a Letter of Acceptance from a DLI. In case your letter is in question, the application will be rejected. In addition to the letter of acceptance, you must also meet the minimum entry requirements for the specific institution you aim for.

The Visa may be rejected in case the Visa officer suspects you of not meeting the minimum requirements.

You can address this problem by ensuring that the institute issuing the letter is registered. Also, the document you attached with your application as proof of minimum requirements should be sufficient.

Additional supporting documents should also be attached.

English Language Proficiency

If you are a non-native English speaker, you must give a test to prove your English language proficiency.

If applying through the SPP or SDS program, you must submit your standardized test scores (TOEFL/ IELTS). Even if your score meets the DLI ELP requirements, if you fail to meet the program requirements, you may get rejected from getting a student Visa to study in Canada.

You must meet the minimum score requirement for your Visa not to get rejected.

No Permanent Stay

The Canadian study visa has an expiry date as well. While giving visa interviews, you have to make sure that you convince the visa officer that after your education, you will return to your original country.

A visa can be rejected if the officer feels you are an immigrant.

Incomplete Travel Or Identity Documents

If you have a lot of travel history but not enough evidence to cover it, the study permit might be rejected. The chances of rejection are high even if the identity documents are not easy to read or incomplete.

There must be sufficient evidence and documents to justify your travel history. The identity documents must be clear and readable.

Intent Of Return To Home Country

The study permit is a temporary visa, so it has a validity period and expiration date. The applicants should submit enough proof that they intend to return to their home country afterward. This does not mean you cannot obtain a visa for an extended stay or a PR.?

It is still mandatory to give proof of intent to return to the home country after the study to ensure that you do not stay after the expiry of the study visa.

This concern can be addressed with a detailed personal statement. You must also understand the dual intent concept when addressing that concern in the personal information.?

Dual intent means that you initially want to visit Canada for work or study but later on want to become a permanent resident of the country.

Lack Of Job Prospects In Home Country

Your visa may also be rejected if you do not have a job offer in the home country or there is a lack of job prospects in the home country. This is because the lack of jobs in the home country indicates no intent to return to the home country after studies.?

This may cause the rejection of the Student permit.?

To solve this, applicants should provide documents and statements indicating that there are sufficient employment aspects in the home country after the studies are completed in Canada.

Biometric Rejections

In case the biometrics are not scanned correctly, or the biometric scans are not uploaded on time, the Canadian embassy has the full right to reject the student Visa.?

For a smooth visa approval process, you are advised to upload the proper biometrics on time.

Rejections Due To COVID-19

Canadian flights from India have been banned for a long time since the COVID-19 pandemic. There are about 3,00,000 students that have applied with a backlog for the student permit.?

Because of a higher demand for student accommodation in Canada, the Canadian embassy has started rejecting students who have poor scores on English language tests and those who aren’t financially independent.?

This is done to filter the students who are better for education in Canada, and the poor educational profiles of students can improve.

Common Mistakes To Avoid

Here are some common mistakes to avoid while applying for Visa for Canada-

Choosing A Shady Or Overseas Immigration Firm

If you want to study abroad in Canada, choose an organization that isn’t shady or seems fraudulent. If things are unregulated or untrustworthy, find a new agency asap.

It is not uncommon for dodgy agents to lure innocent students who want to study abroad and their parents. They tell them about jobs there and PR. They also take a lot of money to place them in substandard colleges or irrelevant programs.

The agency you choose will make a lot of difference, so choose wisely.

Apical Immigration Experts Pvt Ltd will help you get a study abroad student visa, and they are quite a reliable student visa expert.?

You are welcome to contact them for any study abroad queries.

Lack Of Proof Of Funds

The officers will ensure that you are financially independent enough to live there and that you have at least one year of tuition fees of the college you have got admitted to comfortably while having money for daily expenses.

Most students will have financial records sufficient to prove that they can live in Canada without working. Especially for some given period.?

Choice Of Program

This has to be the trickiest one. The visa officers pay special attention to the fact that the person’s choice of program aligns with their past educational record and future aspirations. If it doesn’t, they may cause problems.

Common reasons for rejection are-

  • Applying for PG Diploma if you have a high GPA in bachelor
  • If you have a master's and you are applying for PG Diploma
  • Career Gap
  • Second master's, which is not an MBA
  • The program which does not match previous education?

Detailing is the key to this problem. If you are in such a bind, you will have to convince the visa officials of its value to you by including a detailed personal statement.

Letter Of Acceptance

To ensure that there is no possibility of you changing your plans and that you are going to the college you have already enrolled in, every little detail of your project is going to be analyzed by the officials.

To make sure you are prepared, they are going to check your letter of acceptance for authenticity and your eligibility for the course.

Lack Of English Language Proficiency

Many applicants take this lightly, but the English language test scores are essential to check that you can function in a foreign language speaking society if you are from a non-English speaking country.?

Unclear Intentions To Come Back

No matter your plans, if your intention to return to your home country seems unclear, the Visa will get rejected. Some tips in such a case are-

  • You should have some job offers from the home country to provide proof of return
  • Convince them that you want to return to your home country after your studies?
  • Convince them that there are a lot of job opportunities in your home country

To reiterate, there has to be an intent to return to your home country after the expiration of your Visa.

What To Do If Your Canadian Student Visa Is Rejected?

In case your Visa has been rejected or returned, read on. Let us know the meaning of each first, and then see what we can do to remedy it.

Refusal Or Return

A Visa refusal means that the Visa was refused due to a reason, and it comes with a letter on why it was rejected and that the cause may be-

  • Insufficient finances
  • Missing documents / incomplete documents
  • Dual intent
  • Failure to meet security or health standards, or criminal admissibility standards

A Visa return means that your documents were either incomplete or missing.

See What Went Wrong

The first step should be to find out why the application was rejected. It can help improve your application for when you apply the next time.

If you were rejected when applying from the home country for a Canadian study permit and visitor visa or electronic travel authorization (eTA), it would come with a letter stating why your application was rejected.

If you were rejected after you received the study permit and visitor visa while traveling to Canada and while completing your Visa interview at the airport, then you have the right to ask the border services officer why they refused your final study permit.

Common reasons why it was refused include-

  • Insufficient proof of funds
  • Failure to convince the examining officer that your primary purpose in Canada is to study
  • Failure to convince them that you will leave before the expiration of your Visa
  • False or incomplete documents
  • Insufficient language skills

You have to convince them that you're telling the truth and that you will respect the rules and regulations of the student visa.

Fix Your Application Errors

You need to prepare all the required documents well in advance and get the Visa interview done asap. This gives you time to consider your answers and prepare the necessary documents.

Here are the rules you need to keep in mind before starting the application-

  • Ensure that all your financial records are in order and that you have all the necessary documents from the organization which handles your finance
  • Check all the documents thoroughly and have someone else check your records as well if it is possible
  • During the interview with the border services officer, don’t remember to mention that you aim to return home after your studies end
  • Know details about the institute you are enrolling in and the program along with its campus
  • Practice the visa interview

Options For Reapplying

You have two options while reapplying for Visa,

  • Applying for the same country again
  • Applying for a different country from the previous one

Now would be a perfect time to reanalyze where you want to study and why, and either change your course or try again.

In The Same Country

Most students will learn from their mistakes in their first Visa application and be successful on their second try. You may want to reapply to the same country if-

  • You already have a letter of acceptance from your dream institute
  • You have family or friends living there
  • It is your most cost-efficient option due to scholarships or accommodation

If the first application you applied with was rejected due to specific errors, documents, or omissions, try to resolve the reasons for the rejection and then reapply. Or, if the Visa application has been rejected after the Visa interview, ask the officers for border services for a reason, correct the issues and then reapply.

You have to remain at the airport in case you fail your Visa interview until you can return to your home country, so we recommend preparing adequately.

In A Different Country

Sometimes, what came as a rejection may be a redirect. There are many good institutes in all destination countries, which offer plenty of opportunities. If you decide to study in a different country, you should narrow down your options and choose your final country. Whether in the US, UK, or Australia, you can find the best institute!

While You Wait…

Whether you apply now or in the future, it is a great idea to add more qualifications to your resume while waiting. Doing it will motivate you to continue pursuing your goals and to have your student Visa accepted.?

The resume can be strengthened by-

  • Volunteering
  • Joining a club or a team
  • Attending networking events
  • Taking on responsibilities at work that complement your role

Conclusion

It might feel like the end of the world if the Visa gets rejected, but you do not need to get dejected. There are still many opportunities left for you to pursue, and you can constantly reapply to the same or different country for your Visa to get accepted!?
