Canada's Ministry of Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship has announced an innovative program designed to streamline the transition and employment of American H-1B visa holders. This initiative underscores Canada's dedication to sourcing skilled workers and promoting international talent exchange.
Sean Fraser, Canada's Immigration Minister, announced the creation of a new open work-permit stream, which aims to bring 10,000 American H-1B visa holders to Canada for employment. Additionally, the program extends its reach to include family members of H-1B visa holders by offering them work or study permits.
The Ministry's official statement underscored the importance of this program for individuals engaged in the high-tech sector and those employed by businesses operating extensively in both the United States and Canada. With many of these professionals currently holding H-1B specialty occupation visas in the US, Canada's program presents a promising opportunity for career growth and exploration.
From July 16, 2023, US H-1B specialty occupation visa holders and their immediate families will be eligible to apply for relocation to Canada. Approved applicants under this new policy will be granted an open work permit for up to three years, giving them the freedom to seek employment with any Canadian employer, irrespective of geographical location.
The Ministry's announcement also illuminated provisions for spouses and dependents of successful applicants. They will be eligible to apply for a temporary resident visa, which can be accompanied by a work or study permit as necessary. This holistic approach ensures family unity while maximizing opportunities available in Canada.
This initiative by the Canadian government affirms its dedication to attracting high caliber professionals, stimulating cross-border cooperation, and diversifying the country's workforce. As a certified Canadian immigration consultant, I recommend potential applicants to capitalize on this unique opportunity and avail professional assistance for a seamless immigration process.
