The Glory and Grit are Part of the Purposeful Journey

The Glory and Grit are Part of the Purposeful Journey

To commit to a life of thoughtful and positive disruption for good, is to fail over and over again, pick yourself back up, learn from your mistakes and build stairs of elevation that are founded in all those lessons.?

It is a constant pursuit of growth. The mistakes. Again, they will be plenty. The failing, will be hard. But on the other side of it is always better. ?????

I’ve had the moments where I feel like I face-planted. I even wrote about one of them in my NYT bestselling book Professional Troublemaker . Now, I’m ready to talk about another giant valley moment. I’m ready to talk about one of my hardest years in business, which was 2023. That year almost wiped me out in more ways than one, and at one point I thought I was going to go bankrupt.

It shook my confidence to its core. I lost hundreds of thousands of dollars. And you know what? We don’t talk about the truth of running a business enough. And I’m here to change that. Because to be a Professional Troublemaker, is to tell hard truths, because that is when they are most necessary.?

What had happened was, I started the year super promising and by the middle of the year, I’d fired MY WHOLE TEAM. It was truly a crumbling. ??

So on this season of my Professional Troublemaker podcast , I’m taking a deep dive into the raw reality of business — the highs, the lows, and everything in between. The season kicked off with me talking about my journey to become an entrepreneur (it was accidental and definitely not my original plan, but God has better plans for us). ??

And last week, I dropped an episode where I pulled back the curtain on the rollercoaster ride of transitioning from being a “solopreneur” to building a 7-figure business. And how I quickly found myself with 7 full-time salaried employees (with benefits!). I talk about how as I hired, my pressure got bigger and bigger and so did payroll. And I created systems, strategy and plans to double my revenue in 2023. ????

Lemme tell you, it ain’t work out the way I planned. ??

Sooooo… tune in. If you’re someone who is running your own business, or WANTS TO, this season is for you. Because what I find we don’t do enough is tell the WHOLE truth about all the ways that entrepreneurship can trigger you, traumatize you and make healing your nervous system hard. ????????????

The Professional Troublemaker podcast is available on Apple Podcasts , Spotify , and anywhere you listen to for your favorite podcasts. ???

Thank you for your candor about this. I often get frustrated with other entrepreneurs who don't tell the whole truth, cause I'm in the thick of it and know damn well everything ain't what the IG posts say they are, lol. I appreciate you!

Whew. That was a journey. As a go-fast, juggle a lot, and do it well Type A myself, I see you and what you needed and how you were failed. It's totally your executive office's job to reduce the noise so you can dig in where you need to. I hope your ability to trust is repairing. I want to give you kudos for the fact that you showed up and maintained Standard Luvvie externally really well.

Thanks for sharing. I’ve been needing more stories that reinforce that reality to keep lifting me out of the funk I found myself in again recently.
