Canada Immigration Update: Key Changes You Need to Know
Canada has recently introduced several updates to its immigration policies. Notably, Labor Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) applications in Quebec may be affected by two key changes: an updated salary grid organised by quartiles and revisions to the list of professions eligible for simplified processing. These updates were announced by the Government of Quebec. For further details, read more below.
Salary Grid by Quartiles:
Effective as of 20th April 2025, the 2024 version of the Salary Guide by Professions must be used in all applications. Several professions saw significant changes between the 2023 and 2024 guide. Employers must verify that the offered salary meets the new salary requirements, and if it does not, the application must be filed by 19th April 2025.
List of Professions Eligible for Simplified Processing:
An updated list of professions eligible for simplified processing came into effect on 24th February 2025, and will remain valid until 23rd February 2026. The list was reduced from 275 to 76 professions through the removal of professions within human resources, finance, the industrial sector, and more. For these professions, employers must go through the mandatory recruitment process before filing an LMIA application. A transitional period is currently in effect, lasting until 24th March 2025.
