CANADA EXPERIENCES A SLIGHT INCREASE IN IMMIGRATION INVENTORIES

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) recently updated its data on immigration inventories and processing backlogs. As of the latest report, 2,450,600 applications for permanent residence, temporary residence, and citizenship are active across IRCC’s processing systems. This inventory reflects Canada’s strong immigration demand and IRCC's ongoing efforts to address the backlog.

Current Processing and Service Standards

Of the applications in the system, 55.2% currently meet IRCC's service standards for timely processing. The department has set a target to process 80% of applications within these standards, though some complex cases may need additional time for thorough assessment.

Among different types of applications:

  • Temporary Residence: 53% of applications for visiting, studying, and working in Canada are in backlog, reflecting high demand in these categories.
  • Permanent Residence: 37% of permanent residency applications are currently experiencing delays.
  • Citizenship Applications: 17% exceed service standards, impacting those waiting to finalize their status as Canadian citizens.

IRCC’s Commitment to Efficiency

IRCC remains committed to enhancing processing efficiency and meeting its service standards. Despite current backlogs, the department has set ambitious goals to address delays and improve the application experience. This slight increase in immigration inventories underscores Canada’s popularity as a destination and IRCC’s dedication to supporting individuals in their pursuit of residence or citizenship.
