Studying abroad offers many opportunities for personal and academic growth, and Canada stands as a coveted destination for international students. Securing a student visa, or study permit, is a crucial step in this pursuit. To embark on this journey, aspirants need to meticulously compile various documents, meeting specific criteria outlined by Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).
Here's a comprehensive breakdown of the essential document requirements.
1. Letter of Acceptance: A foundational document, the Letter of Acceptance is issued by a designated Canadian learning institution upon a successful admission application. This letter serves as proof of enrollment and outlines the details of the program, including its duration and start date. It's imperative to obtain this document before applying for a study permit.
2. Valid Passport: Having a valid passport is a fundamental requirement when applying for a Study Permit in Canada. The Canadian High Commission specifies that your passport must be valid for the duration of your intended stay in Canada. It's crucial to ensure that your passport covers your planned stay to avoid any complications in the application process.
3. Proof of Funds: When applying for your Study Permit, you'll need to demonstrate proof of funds. To meet current standards, you must show sufficient funds to cover tuition fees and living expenses. Canadian immigration authorities estimate a minimum of CAD 10,000 per year for a student's stay. Also, I would like to point out that showing enough funds for return travel is essential. You can provide proof of funds through various means, including:
4. Passport Size Photographs: To complete an offline application, you'll require two passport-sized photos meeting specified guidelines. For online applications, a digital photo under 4MB is necessary. Guidelines include a neutral facial expression, a plain background, and no headgear unless for religious reasons.

5. Immigration Medical Examination (IME): Students from India must undergo a mandatory Immigration Medical Examination conducted by authorized panel physicians to comply with Canadian Immigration regulations. It's advisable to schedule this examination at least a week before initiating the Visa Application process.
6. English Language Proficiency Exam Score: While not compulsory during the application, it's highly advisable to have obtained your English Language Proficiency Score before initiating the Visa Application Process. Typically, submitting your English language proficiency score is part of confirming admission to a Canadian University.
7. Statement of Purpose: Also known as a Letter of Explanation, this document outlines the reason for the visit to Canada and demonstrates the applicant's comprehension of their obligations as a student.
8. International Debit/Credit Card: If applying online, a credit card is needed to cover the CAD 150 application fee and CAD 85 for biometrics for the Canada student visa application. The system accepts credit cards and debit cards that are enabled with international payment transactions.
9. Additional Documents: Required for more documents during visa application, such as other academic records, Financial Proof, plans for leaving Canada after studies, and strategies for covering educational, living, and travel expenses.
