Can you be yourself at work?
Out of so many hobbies, I love singing no matter how good or bad I sing. I start humming at the least when I hear songs of my likings. And I showcase this talent at work too. My colleagues not only know that, but they acknowledge my “I don’t care” attitude towards singing. I never thought of what others think. But, I am sure, most of you would have encountered at least one situation at work in which you'd be like, “How should I behave?” ??
Hiding your personality at work takes a lot of mental and emotional energy.
Can you be authentic at work? ?? Here’s what it means to be authentic at work. There can be two versions of yours at work. One is the person you try to pretend - ‘professional’. The other is who you actually are. If you come in each day at work knowing that you don’t have to pretend to be someone you aren’t, then you can have real conversations with colleagues.
In the last few years, I have come up with many ideas at work and shared with my boss. A few of them were turned down and many of them were appreciated and turned out to be great ideas after implementation. The point here is can you share ideas without any hesitation at your workplace? Or you need to think before speak? ??
Research says - feeling comfortable and empowered lets you take more risks, speak out more and solve problems better. While this may or may not mean that you can completely and totally be yourself in every situation you’ll encounter at work.
We, at Complitech, allow everyone to be themselves be it humorous, crazy, shy or creative. One such example of the same is the image below, I wanted to make something from yarn. Boss purchased all available colors and gave them to me. And I made this. ????
So don’t hide your creativity, goofy sense of humour or crazy ideas at work. You never know, your thoughts can make it to reality.
Are your ideas welcomed at your work? Share your thoughts.
