Can You Touch Their Hearts?

We understand that leadership is much about creating a clear and focused vision, and then getting a group of people to buy into that vision. But there is another aspect of leadership I want to talk about today. It's the most important part of leadership. It's very hard and very rare.

But if you can master this part of leadership, you will be on your way to truly creating something special.

Touching people's hearts. Tapping into their souls. Stirring their spirit.

There is a spiritual side inside all of us. For some, it's hidden deep down below, but for others it's right near the surface.

But for all of us, it's there.

We want to be inspired. We want to believe this world can be a better place. We want to see the good guys win. We want to get that lump in our throats. We want to get those tears in our eyes. We want to give back. We want to spread love. We want to do good.

We all have a spiritual side, and it's beautiful.

We also all have a dark side.

The side that Joseph Conrad wrote about in Heart of Darkness.

Greed. Hypocrisy. Addiction. Immoral. Evil. Darkness.

We want our money and will destroy to get it. We are hypocrites. We lie. We cheat. We steal. We are addicts. We lust. We are gluttons. We gossip and talk badly about people who don't look or act like us.

The other side is right there. We all know it.

We all deal with it.

Great leaders are not na?ve. They understand there are two sides but they choose with whole hearted conviction to focus their energy on the light-hearted side.

They choose the high road.

That life can be beautiful or ugly and that our attitude is our choice. And this choice determines our life.

Great leaders speak to these amazing qualities like love, compassion, kindness - and they challenge the people around them to reveal this side of their coin.

The good side.

In essence, leaders transform the people around them.

Do you realize the impact you can have on the people you lead?

Think back on all the great teachers, managers, and mentors in your life. They believed in you. They saw something in you that you weren't able to see. They pushed you, and they encouraged you. This belief made you glow. It made you think of yourself through a new perspective. Your values shifted.

You became the best version of yourself.

We all need this person in our life. We need that push. We need someone to believe in us.

A great leader grabs the spirit of people and stirs it, wakens it, and pushes it forward.

This is what I mean by tapping into the soul of it all.

It has nothing to do with the business, or products, or productivity.

It has to do with people. Caring. Believing.

We must idealize people.

We can do those hard things. We can make this world a better place. We can be optimistic about our future. We can believe that love overcomes hate.

We can. We can. We can.

Believe. Believe. Believe.

Its right there for anyone and everyone to take - if they want it.

But they need someone to show them the way.

Is that person you? Can you do it? Can you be that light in their world?

Can you care for them at a level they have never experienced in their life?

Guys, this is what I mean by being soulful.

By tapping into the spirit.

This is moving the world forward.

You can do this.

For God sake you must do this.

If not you, then who?
